Last night I was booked into to do a call-in workshop. They were in the US I was in Taiwan. I checked out the times online using a World Clock converter and all seemed good - but then, when I logged in, the workshop was over - I’d missed it!
Here’s the US time as given by the organizers.
September Sat Sep 3 2011 9:00am PT / 12:00pm ET - 1 hour 30 minutes
Here’s the Time Conversion result I got with the World Clock Converter:
New York (U.S.A. - New York) Saturday, 3 September 2011, 12:00:00 EDT UTC-4 hours Taipei (Taiwan) Sunday, 4 September 2011, 00:00:00 CST UTC+8 hours
Can anyone help me out and tell me where I went wrong. I’ll likely be doing one of these workshops on a monthly basis and don’t want to screw it up again.
You’re 12 hours ahead of us here in NY until we turn the clocks back in November. I had the same problems all the time with my students who are living in Taiwan. Finally I set up a Web scheduling system that lets everyone choose his own time zone to schedule. It’s helped a lot. World Clock is good but it’s easy to mix up days, even when you get the hour right. You are definitely not alone in having done stuff like that.
What made it even worse was that I’d tanked myself up on coffee to make sure I was fairly sharp - so no giving it all up as a bad day at the office and going to bed. Next time…
