I have no evidence whatsoever and this information probably came to me in a dream but I was under impression that technology exists that can allow the sex of the baby to be chosen, however most places outlaw it. As for what kind of technology, probably test-tube/ genetic tampering.
Perhaps they actually mean ‘advanced medical techniques’ combined with abortion
:fume:
Although I believe there is technology now to combine a single ‘chosen’ sperm with the egg - this has been done primarily where there are fertility problems but could be misused in this way. There has already been some controversy where parents had a second child chosen such that his/her bone marrow (?) or something would prove a match for the first child, who was suffering some condition requiriing transplant/transfusion.
Edit: Research reveals the controversy was over embryo selection of several conceived through IVF.
Taiwan already imports brides. Approximately 30% of brides were from mainland China or foreign countries last year, or so I read. So what I’d like to know is this: there are fewer Taiwanese women than men because parents abort female babies, resulting in 9 girls for every 10 boys; but then 3 of those boys marry foreigners; this leaves 20% of Taiwanese women with no male partner. So what do these women do? I’ve never heard of any complaints that 20% of women here can’t get married. Is lesbianism taking up the slack?
Yes baba I am pretty sure lesbianism is doing just that. You have to feel really sorry for the women here who are not gorgeous, rich or gay. It must be hell.
Xiao Laopo
That’s right, Bu Lai En. The 20% that can’t find husbands, most of them become the Other Woman.
Or become the Crazy Old Spinster Aunt.
Is there any other place in the world with so many 30 year old virgins than Taiwan?
Lesbianism? Give me a break, dudes. The xiao jies like to pound the meat too much.
The next big thing will be import grooms, mark my words. Being tired of small peckers and shit, Taiwanese women will wake up and get the goods from abroad. So, look foward to seeing more guys with big packages on the streets soon. Maybe all the unemployed english teachers from SA, who can’t get jobs because they don’t have the wonderful North American accent? Who knows? Taiwanese women might even have cravings for black dudes.
Finally Taiwan will become THE internationalized island with foreign flavor galore. Yep. That’s the way it will be.
Geez, gotta get off that medication. Makes me all woozy in the head :help:’
later
One Taiwanese woman I know said it’s already started. I had never noticed, but she said that black men were very popular here. She told me, in a shocked whisper, that one of her friends had married a man from Nigeria just for sex.
Seriously, I think the whole import-bride thing is a fucking shame. If you cant get any here then you are not meant to get any at all. Simple as that. Natural selection at its best, I say.
Plus it adds to the tension across the Taiwan Strait. By 2010 so many mainland girls will be in Taiwan blowing backwood, that China will not want to reunite the motherland, but get its girls back.
Imagine the frustration of some chinese hinterland loser who can’t get any cuz they all ran off to Taiwan. He will be like “WTF, I want them pussies back, and by golly I’ma get em even if I gotta go to Taiwan meself.” Take 1 million such guys and there you have your invasion army.
So, horny old Taiwanese bastards, heed my advice, for the good of the country, don’t you go shagging mainland pussy, for the price will be higher than maintance costs you are paying right now.
Damn, I should be the friggin presidential adviser here.

You should be preparing the gravol and pain killers for tomorow morning. I think you will be needing them.
You were right the first time when you suggsted that Taiwanese women will be importing grooms soon. In fact they started that a long time ago. More tact is requirred in such arrangements however so import-a- grooms usually pose as English teachers. It’s old news.
to???
Not necessarily. Sex selection during IVF has been doable for a long time. Among other things, a ‘Y’ chromosome is a little smaller and lighter than an ‘X’ chromosome; it’s a well-known fact that male wigglers swim faster as a result.

Yep, that’s the ‘although’ I was getting at with the second half of my post, but obviously wasn’t clear enough - if you can test for genetic defects in the embroyos during IVF, you can obviously test for sex. And the single sperm thing means if you can separate them accurately, you can choose the sex.
However, due to the expense and complexity of these techniques, I think it’s the advanced medical techniques such as CVS (can be done as early as 9-11 weeks) combined with abortion which are going to be the likeliest factor actually explaining any increased skew in the sex ratios as mentioned in the article. I suppose it’s better than dumping their child when it’s born, or worse :s
Moving on, another thing related to the ‘bride shortage’ is probably, just like the West, women are generally reluctant to ‘marry down’. Thus even if there were equality in the sexes, men further down the status ladder would probably still find it harder to get a local bride, even if there are technically enough women for them.

OMG, just imagine what the local public service ad hacks are likely to come up with. It sure won’t be as slick as the campaign they ran in Singapore that they ran to get girls with degrees to lower their sights.
The clash between tradition (male) and modernity (female) will lead to an island where the genetic presence of Vietmanese will be rather strong. Wonder how they will cope with that.
Better that than more DNA from China. ![]()
