Taiwan to San Francisco

ok. I am finally ready to start planning a trip home for some reverse culture shock. lol. I checked out Interlink, but it looks like they fly to LA, and I really dont want to book a flight with another company and do all that mumbo jumbo.

Does anyone know a good place to look online for flights from Taiwan to SF? I am living in Tainan, so please do not recommend a Taipei agent. Thanks,
D

Is it possible for you to book tickets with the airlines on the Internet? If you can, I know United Airlines flies to San Fran from Taiwan.

Hans

Yeah, you should be able to book direct with the airline. I’ve booked that way with Cathay before. Be prepared to pay more than the travel agent’s price, though. I hate booking flights with Taiwan travel agents: same price from every agent usually, with little possibility of booking well ahead; higher prices for credit cards; even more for AMEX… :bluemad:

Planning already? You just got to Tainan.

Rumor has it that Malayasian Airlines has the best deals at around 25k round trip. Bon’t know about the online booking though.

Does it matter where the agent is physically located? I would think they can book flights, and mail you the tickets no matter where they are located.

As for online, you can usually find some pretty good deals on these sites:

http://www.eztravel.com.tw
http://www.ezfly.com
http://www.ysticket.com.tw

You’ll have to get someone who reads Chinese to check them for you though.

There are flights to SFO as low as NT$14800 now.

http://intl.ezfly.com/intl/sales/pricelist.asp?kind=pict&type=user&saleno=1161&eventcd=ith&website=hotmore4

The sites change and update daily though, and for the super low fares, there are usually lots of restrictions, fine print, and limited travel dates.

Take Malaysian to SFO. I did it last time and was pleasantly surprised–cheaper than the rest and more comfortable, better entertainment/service/food.

wow. thanks for all the info. i am checking prices now cause I have to give at least one months notice for my vacation! yikes.

I thought Malaysia only flew to LA.
I’ve flown UA (Unitied) to SF several times.
There’s also China air…ha ha…

I’m flying three with my cats end of May. Northwest from here to Osaka to Detroit? to Charlotte. Hell!

Can’t find anything more direct than that, dammit!

Btw, make sure you sign up for frequent flyer mileage. I can’t tell you how many free flights I’ve got by doing this for long haul flights to NA, Europe, Oz. It’s totally worth the paperwork. Last freebie was to Bali!

Ok, I think Alien might be right about Malaysian going to LA. I almost always go to SFO, but took a quickie to LA in October. BTW, Malaysian has a very sucky mileage plan, so you might be better off with United after all.

Alien: seems like there’s not direct routes to any small-mid-sized cities in the US. I find it surprising that pretty much nowhere on the west coast will fly direct to St. Louis. Buggers.

poor kitties. meow meow meow!

Well, not if you aren’t part of the bin Laden family… :unamused:
