Taiwan University Initials

What about Chenggong University in the Nation of Taiwan? Would that produce better initialisation? What would the nickname for the students be?

Probably why Caltech is “California Institute of Technology” and not “…University…”

I don’t have a high opinion of tertiary education.

Good day to you all!

Yes but what about our engaged yet reasoned discouse about it here on forumosa? Surely this will change your mind. :upside_down_face:

Guy

I just saw that–what a mouthful!

I’ve been working on the development of an unfeasibly long acronym involving pasta and skeeball themed dreams that ends in a U and doubles as a playful insult in order to tempt @volv1992 back into the academic fold. However I am currently coming up short. With that in mind we may need to consider NTUEIMPLAI as the current best available technology

My favorite is the National University of Tainan, which they thankfully had the sense to add an N at the end of. So it’s NUTN, not the shorter NUT…

Though every time I see it I’m reminded of that stupid cereal commercial, “What are you eating? Nuttin’ honey!” (Nut & Honey)

“Nut” reminds you of cereal? Funny. It reminds me of something else. Maybe I just have a dirty mind.

NUTN reminds me of the cereal Nut & Honey, which in the commercial they pronounced “Nuttin’ honey” i.e. “Nothing, honey.”

Stupid commercial

With that thought in mind, please do not - I repeat do not - watch the nut and honey commercial!

Universidad de Ciencias Políticas, not just politics, but rather political science, diplomacy, law, sociology and the other stuff Chengda excels at.

I had a friend drop a scholarship because he could not get in Taida. His argument was that if the name was not recognized abroad it did not matter, and even if people do not know where Taiwan is or confuse it with Thailand, The National University of X Country still carries more weight than to what untrained and unfamiliar ears sounds like nonsense in a foreign language.

That is quite sad. And telling :disappointed_relieved:

Though I find NTU does have some weight. Some of their pubs are actually world class and highly regarded! To be fair, that is my experience with them: publication not student quality. Actual students we have employed from there were let go pretty quick hahaha

For a moment you had me wondering how they got the pub concept right when they’re not even British. :beers:

Side note: I’ve always thought Renmin University is a silly English name. Just translate the word! :2cents:

What do you call Catholic University in Chile?

That’s right, Católica.
