Well their passports say “Republic of China”. I find it hard to get worked up over this when their own government agrees.

Taiwanese crew are free to quit their jobs and not fly to China if they hate it so much. Nobody has to go to China. Just stay in Taiwan and take one of the many well-paid jobs Tsai Ing-wen is providing to the young generation 
Sounds like it’s an airline decision to reduce problematic situations entering and departing China.
