I was going through my phone and camera, ettig a list together for a large group coming to Taiwan. Just the pics.

Here are a few, got tired. Too many good places to eat. Loads of suggestions on this site, added a few and said fuck it. Too many.

Add more when I get back to te oist for the guests. Others add kore. I will edit a larger list and put it in the OP.

For referrence. I put the score out of ten for my own personal opinion. A couple examples to judge them as a rough guide:

I view anything over a 5 to be very good food worthy of repeat visits. 6 and 7 are great. 8 and 9 are exceptional. 10 would be worthy of flying around the world to just try that. I have not met a 10 yet. Basically, my 6 is VERY good! A 0-2 is just if starving and need energy. Like 711 or KFC. 3-5 is a place I don’t mind going, but prefer something better.

I’m asking you to recommend places for good Taiwanese food in Kaohsiung, and you give a list of mostly places from the burger thread I started. If you want to know what I think, that’s posted on the thread.

Useful would be a link to a restaurant that doesn’t specialize in seafood and serves actual Taiwnese cuisine. I’m not sure if there is one you can recommend in Kaohsiung.

You want REAL taiwanese food, not just great food in taiwan, leave the city. I was following the lead in the food sucks reread that calls most food bad when it’s all foreign food :wink:

For taiwanese [aboriginal] food, go where they live and operate :wink: most cities have displaced rhem and its mostly just han now. So you get more foreign food, especially Chinese.

Akame is close to you and good.

Take the Chanzhi exit from freeway#3 on Route 24. Takes you almost the whole way there. 40ish mins from kaohsiung. Same with some of the other suggestions in the pingtung section.

Maybe others have suggestions in kaohsiung city for proper taiwanese cuisine. But I suspect you need to head in past Qishan, maolin areas where they still have their culture partially intact.

Otherwise, I go to eat in kaohsiung for the excellent foreign food.

To be fair, you put some restrictions up: no seafood, for ethical reasons. This is a completely reasonable position, but it does take out what I think are actually the strongest points of K-town’s takes on coastal Fujian foods.

AKAME, btw, may be one of the most celebrated Taiwan restaurants of any kind. I’d love to try it some day. :star_struck:

I’ve heard of it. Apparently it is almost impossible to get a reservation.

But if that’s the only restaurant for good Taiwanese food in an area with millions of Taiwanese people, they must be busy.

Rukai territory is one of my favourite places in Taiwan—full stop.

It’s wonderful that the Akame guys have brought their a-game to the food scene there. More of this, please!

I gave you lots. Even referenced you. I remember reading through one of the threads that your complaint in the good food was the place by the lotus pond (I forgot the restaraunt name) was:

Too far away from you

The outer environment had mosquitoes

And the pond should plant lemon grass for said bugs (which won’t work).

At the risk of pointing out the obvious, these are not the metrics in which we judge food being good or bad :hugs:

I am rather just judging the actual food being good or bad. How I get there and how the outer environment is, or isn’t, really the business of the cook unless the business is marketing specifically to an outdoor eatery atmosphere. Even then, the atmosphere and food are 2 vastly different things.

It’s not the only. You yourself have suggested a number of good places.

Note I am following your lead from the other thread. When I mentioned taiwanese food being taiwanese cuisine, I was laughed at there haha. I love that we have come full circle now! You can’t call foreign food in taiwan shit then switch to saying these foreign cuisines that are eecomended arent taiwnaese. Pick a lane and stick with it :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Foreign cuisine in taiwan also has great options, but also has shit options. Kind of normal.
