Taiwanese food is great!

Had lamb hot pot today for the first time. (羊肉爐)
I think it edged out over the other 2 winter hot pots (薑母鴨 and 麻油雞)for me because the meat was super tender and this particular restaurant also offered other lamb dishes such as grilled skewers or lamb chops. I have no idea if thats the norm, good stuff anyway.

Sadboys club, Hualien city. Behind Jia curry (also a good spot).

Pakistani food, Hualien. Madina

Sp rare to have cool weather in pingtung! Hot pot time. It’s so so, but hits the spot and has loads of variety. Shabushabu. Can’t wait to hit up kaohsiung before it’s hot again for some spicy hotpot!!

Those look solid.

Based on my experience: a friendly and proactive owner, with whom I enjoyed speaking; subpar palak paneer (pictured above) when I visited earlier this month. Owner acknowledged difficulty finding actual spinach lately in the markets and the dish was, he told me, prepared using frozen veggies from Costco. :slightly_frowning_face:

I’ll need to try Sadboys. It looks good. Jia curry is no longer good. They changed owners and the curries from various Asian countries idea got lost. Too bad.

We always go to Madina when in Hualien.

It’s interesting you mention that. Because we were all disappointed about the palace paneer, which is absolutely the go to for me to test a place. However, knowing the farm situation there, and the typhoon. I gave him a pass on that because spinach that freezes will inevitably have that cell destruction and lead to a shit sloppy discolored sauce. It was sad, but the other stuff was great. I have had really good palak paneer there before, even just a couple months before that crazy typhoon. Hopefully soon it will improve. Spinach is fast and it’s cold as anything in the east this year, perfect for good spinach. Once the big companies are stocked full, the little guys can get a chance haha.

That platter is all we had. The staff are typical young person coffee shop attitudes. But it was good food. Here’s the menu

That’s a bummer about jiacurry. I ha ent been In a few years I guess. Damn :frowning: was there anything particular that stood out in the change?

I misspoke in my post above. They still have various curries from Asia/Southeast Asia, but they all just kind of went down in tastiness. The appetizer and dessert are as average as ever, but the curries are now nothing special, whereas in the past, when that main dish arrived, it was so good to dig into that. The curries had a little spice to them in the past also, and now no more.

I was a fan of theirs from the beginning when they had the tiny location on 府前路 I think it was. They then moved to the bigger current location. The owner had a great run for 10+ years. I don’t blame him for cashing out and taking a break.
