Taiwanese Tax Return- Won't Let American Bank process it. Help!

Hello,

I’m in a bit of conundrum with my Taiwanese tax return, and would really appreciate any and all advice or thoughts anyone can provide.

I lived in Taiwan from February 2012 to February 2013 working for a major buxiban chain. When my contract ended, I returned to the United States, where I live and work now. Prior to my departure, I filled out tax return information at the local tax office. Since the check was in my name, my HNST over there couldn’t wire me the funds. So, I asked my bank here in the states if they could process foreign checks, explaining exactly what my situation was. They said it shouldn’t be a problem. So, my school mailed me the check. After I got everything translated and the bank tried to process it, they were unable to because Taiwan now apparently has regulations that they will not deposit it outside the country, they won’t issue the funds, whatever. So now what can I do? Is there any possible way around this?

contact the AIT

The tax office needs to re-issue the check as an uncrossed check. Then it can be paid into a bank account other than the payee’s.

Hello,

Thank you for the help here. I did contact the AIT to see what can be done. In regards to the second answer, I would need to get in touch with my buxiban and have them contact the tax office, is that correct?

Sounds odd. I think you should only work with the tax office.

The taxpayer needs to complete form No. 5 available at the link, and submit it along with a passport copy.

ntbna.gov.tw/etwen/Forms_01.html

The check will be re-issued but it takes a while. At least a month as I remember.

Update: AIT can’t do anything for me except refer me to a list of lawyers, which I don’t think will be necessary.

Monkey, thanks for your help here. When I click that link, I just get a message in Chinese, and it redirects to the main tax administration home page (entirely in Chinese). If possible can we continue our conversation via PM?
