It is a huge waste of resources. Mostly useless feel good pieces. The only thing I saw critical of Taiwan was about rent discrimination and even that was extremely watered down
I wonder what they would do with my story at DBS. Maybe they would be like a poster on this forum, it’s your fault for not wearing a suit.
They also did good on the report of disabled permanent resident who could not get disability recognized officially.
Taiwanese government is still nitpicking which nationalities to give disability and that nitpicking process is still ongoing. Why make it easy if you can make it complicated?
Disagree. Take a look at all the news they produced about Taiwan in the last week or so at the link below.
There are critical stories especially under labor but elsewhere too. For example, the wage gap story in economics or bilingual policy under Education.
And new is just part of the content they produce.
There’s certainly room for improvement. But they are producing a healthy stream of decent quality that dwarfs anything else available. At the same time, they are training up Taiwanese talent and capacity to tell Taiwan’s story to the world.
In a way, they do “migrate” don’t they.
Stop being so anthropocentric!

They don’t even have A(P)RC’s! Deport them!
If so, we can learn from certain parts of the US population:
Wait, are you saying that’ll completely f&ck up Taiwan’s economy? That it would also be a stupid own goal? I guess those people might not be a great model to follow.

Sally Jensen, one of a group of excellent reporters for Taiwan Plus, is apparently moving to AFP to report now from SE Asia.

Taiwan Plus is in the news, and not in a good way.
In the lead up to the US election, reporter Louise Watt had referred the major party candidates as a choice between “its first female president” or “its first convicted felon.” Seems objectively true, though Watt could have added that the latter would also be (this is before the election) the oldest person ever elected president in the United States. Unlike the US media with Biden, she did not play the age card.
The Ministry of Culture has reportedly taken umbrage at this reporting and has alleged “misconduct” and requested TaiwanPlus to submit a report to the Ministry to explain.
This heavy handed micomanagement of factual reporting is a terrible look. And yes I know that the Lai government wants to do everything possible to kiss DJT’s ass right now. But come on!

EDIT: In the comments below, the 50 cent army seems to be all over this . . .

Other state broadcasters have not shied away. Here’s an example:

Under US law, you have to be sentenced before you are considered convicted. I believe the reporter like so many today let her feelings get in the way and was not factual. If she’s giving an opinion on people, I’d recommend she show fairness. Democrats would not have chosen Kamala if she went through a primary so the reporter should have added that to her opinion.
DJT remains a convicted felon. He is not a sentenced felon, which is I think what you are pointing out in your post. You will note that neither Louise Watt nor the CBC referred to him as a “sentenced” felon.
It’s worth noting, as the CBC pointed out, that DJT cannot in his typically self-serving manner pardon himself once he takes office again in 2025. His felonies were at the state level outside his control.
The larger point remains: should government agencies in Taiwan be clamping down on the press. I have noted—and not just in this thread—that I understand why they want to kiss the incoming US president’s derriere. I have also noted my dismay that the press would be a target in this process.

The CCP would approve
Yes as I said this is a terrible look.
As is my grammar in that post, which has now been adjusted!
Guy
Should be fired. Absolutely disgraceful. The type of thing I would expect from US media…
What’s more likely is Biden will pardon both his son Hunter Biden and Donald Trump at the same time right before leaving office.
Sorry I don’t think Taiwan’s Ministry of Culture has the ability to force Biden to do that.
Guy
Seems here they are worried that the reporting is too one sided. Also, it is an attack on him especially seeing that the cases could still be dismissed.
The “convicted felon” part is not a matter of all those pending cases against DJT. It’s about his past conviction in New York State (I know there’s been so much criming around DJT, so it’s not easy to keep track of all the details).
Another state broadcaster speaks plainly, showing again that TaiwanPlus is not alone:
