I can see one place that looks decent that you posted, the rest look like expensive apartments. Is that last picture correct? I recall the Taichung World Trade Centre was supposed to be located on that land.

Any place, in any country, you can find expensive apartments if you want, or build a house in a well-situated land. Back at Catalonia, I worked as a Health & Safety manager for a construction company. A very rich family asked my company to build a house for them, because it was “cheaper” than buying one. They provided the land (in one of the most exclusive places there), and paid directly to the construction company, no middlemen.
Just the construction (and only kitchen furniture) ended up costing up to 16 million euros. I swear, they had a swimming pool and a movie theater in the basement… nuts.

I live in that brick one you can kind of see at the very right of the photo. We pay NT$21K a month for 36 pings with double height ceilings and 2 levels. Views are incredible. I’ve no idea what the prices are in the one you posted but with the smallest being 75 pings, you can bet it’s not cheap.
Wow, CF, you are neighbors with Terry Gou! I remember hearing about him buying up several units in that building as a “birthday present” for his young trophy wife.
Nowadays it’s not too crazy to have a small movie theatre in your home if you have an extra room to spare. Projectors are pretty reasonable now and just hook it up to a dvd player and you are good to go, but if you are speaking of full sized ones, then yes, that is very extravagant. But I image for that much it must have been a really nice theatre.

I am speaking of a movie theater. The sloped floor, with a few extra-comfortable seats, an audio/video system that you could find in a commercial theater… the only thing they didn’t had was the popcorn booth at the entrance. Oh, well. I suppose they had their staff bring them popcorn from the kitchen…

Just offhand I know a dozen different people in podunk Wichita, Kansas, USA, who have full blown in-home theaters. Complete with state of the art audio and video, sloped floors, theater curtains controlled by motors that open them when the video system is turned on, leather seating, popcorn machines in a special entry foyer, etc. Standards are very high there because one, they absolutely love movies and two, the local movieplexes are of very high quality. Same thing here in Virginia - where the lack of great movieplexes is outweighed by superior personal wealth - so extrapolating from there…
I think it’s a very common trend with upper middle class American baby boomers. Not necessarily rich ones, either.
