IL, I have never budgeted in my life and don’t intend to start now.
I generally avoid big fancy hotels, but that’s not a hard and fast rule. I don’t do cheap and nasty any more. Basically I want reasonable comfort and don’t mind paying more if I don’t feel like I’m paying too much for it.
I’m 90% certain I’ll be away for the last two weeks of May. I’m 90% certain that I’ll come back too. It’s the unexpected 10% that makes life interesting, don’t you think?
Has anyone been to Guam? Palau?
Maybe I’ll just go to Yonaguni and camp out so’s I can explore those underwater ruins?
Have been there three times and the diving is out of this world! Sharks, Giant Groupers, every kind of pelagic fish you can think of rises out of the deep to get in on the reef-top food chain. It ain’t cheap though, two dives will run you around 95.00US a day, but worth every penny! Koror is pretty modern, and I believe they have an internet cafe on the island.
A fair hotel in Koror will run about 35-40 dollars a night. I do all my diving through Sams dive tours. Very well run and they have won many awards in the diving community for having the best all around dive center in the entire pacific… check them out at www.samstours.com
There is another option there which is to camp out on one of the deserted rock islands. This could well be some of the best camping you’ll EVER do. The dive boats cruise by in the morning and pick you up for your dives. They will also provide food and drink on a daily basis. Once the dive day is over, you’ll have the entire island to yourself…A micronesian sunset while drinking a cold beer and watching the baby reef sharks feed in the shallows at your feet…Doesn’t get any better than that!
