Supports of a Tamsui light rail section currently under construction gave way today, causing a crane to fall to the ground, injuring at least 1. Two giant pieces of precast concrete body also tumbled onto the road.
LUCKY someone wasn’t standing there or driving past. Guess that will take some creativity to clean up.

The incident occurred at the intersection between Zhongshan North Road section 3 and Binhai Road section 1, on the Green Mountain Line which will link Hongshulin Mass Rapid Transit station with Danhai New Town.
Police and ambulance hurried to the scene to help the driver of a crane on the construction site who had reportedly suffered injuries to his arms and legs. It was not immediately clear what had caused the accident, and whether the heavy rain of the past few days had played a part.
The accident was reminiscent of a similar case on the Taichung MRT system, when a steel girder fell off and crushed three construction workers and one driver in April last year. Ten people were charged with negligence due to a failure to provide adequate safety measures.
If that had happened on the main Denghui Avenue, the injuries would have been horrendous. That’s a major artery through Tamsui…

I like the guy in charge’s attitude: there was heavy wind and rain at the time, but we cannot blame that. We will investigate to find the root of the problem.
