Taoyuan - Hualien: is this info still current?

Hello from sunny Ishigaki Island!

Am thinking of taking a quick trip to Hualien, ahead of my planned relocation (had talked about this before in another thread).
My scheduled arrival at Taoyuan Airport would be 19:40 (on a Sunday or a Monday), and here’s some connection information that someone had posted somewhere else on the web;
1. International airport to Taoyuan HSR 11KM (NT500-600, 10-20 minutes by taxi I think)
2. Taoyuan HSR =1816 1840 1858 [1916 1940 2016 2040] 2058 2116 about 16minutes to Banciao
3. The following is timetable (train number=banciao,hualian) (1065=1817,2128), (1187=1853,2105), (1030=1921,2242)
[(1073=2004,2223), (24=2030,0029), (1067=2131,0046)] (63=2243,0249) 1187,1073 is tilting train
Does this look like it’s current information? If yes, it should be possible to catch the 2131 train without having to rush.

The 1067 currently leaves at 21:37.
Check here for current time schedules.

On a Monday night, I would take the Taiwan Bus Company (Kuokuang) to Taipei Station and catch the 1067 at 21:50 from there. Might be a bit tight for first time travelor but definitely doable.

You can always take the Juguang 63 an hour later if you miss it

Thanks for the update and the link to twtraffic.tra.gov.tw/twrail/ - that site is easy enough to use.

What do you think is the advantage of going to Taipei station over going to Banciao station? I am a bit concerned that the more time i spend on the road the more chances there are for delays (traffic snarls). Come to think of it - is it not closer and faster to go to the Taoyuan train station, anyway?

The buses run more frequently to Taipei and the bus is a lot cheaper (five times). Sunday night could be a problem with traffic. The trains to Hualien start in Shulin, which is after Taoyuan station.

Thanks for the additional info!

I just found out (via kingbus.com.tw/down2.php?li_code=1A170263 ) that the bus you mention takes 50 minutes (scheduled time), and i also got the bus company’s phone number. That will probably be all i need to know for now.

According to the bus company’s website, there will be construction at their Taipei East terminal from the end of October and likely until early next year.

The airport bus is therefore rerouted to the Taipei West terminal.
According to the map at maplandia.com/taiwan/taipei/ there are two ways to walk from the Taipei West bus terminal to the train station, one arriving at the station to the north of the tracks and one to the south - which one is better (faster) in terms of getting to the ticket counters?

And here is the detailed info on how frequently:

頭班車05:40~末班車00:30,班距約15分鐘左右一班。

“between 05:40 and 00:30 approximately every 15 minutes”

Here is some relevant information from another thread (where someone was looking for transportation to Taoyuan airport):

 1.
The U-bus near Taipei main station will take you to Taoyuan Airport for 125NTD in approximately 45minutes including tollgate traffic.

Beware of Taxi’s or Limo service as they would sometimes take the national highway instead of the freeway which would take the trip time 1.5X longer.
If i could just find a schedule for that line… it’s not mentioned on the airport site.

That means, if my flight were to arrive earlier, i could go from the airport to Taoyuan station with the Ubus instead of a taxi.
But as the timetable at taoyuanairport.gov.tw/englis … peed_e.jsp shows, with a 19:40 arrival there is no suitable bus to connect to the fast train to Hualien. So this is something to keep in mind for another occasion…

An update (with thanks to all who, via this forum or via PM, have offered information and support):
i won’t have to go via Taipei after all - a few days ago (i.e., suddenly) some direct flights have materialized (this month only, for starters, but that’s the way of the future.)

Getting my ass in gear now… :yay:
