Of course not, a trade war has no winners, China loses margins and the US cost goes up so it’s a lose-lose scenarios.
The SEA companies now advertising actively on China internet are making money on buying/reselling/relabeling/re… products. Some legally, some illegally so China companies markings goes down
And in the US we have a President telling us we can’t buy 30 dolls anymore, we are only allowed to buy 2 dolls…. How will that hurt Amazon, Walmart and other US companies?
My company export to US, EU and a few other countries, all countries are having their own issues to deal with from their laws. Luckily I mainly sell FOB Taiwan, so it’s not my issue to bring it through for example the US customs, but the distributors I work with have always through the years had issues, these tariffs are mainly an extra cost and hassle on top, the issues on certifications etc. was always there. Trump makes it out like US are innocent like a baby, and all others are devil spawns… But it is not the truth
Added: btw I don’t sell to China, but that is because China are really the devil spawns But other countries are not so different from US as Trump is having his pants on fire…
Sure. But in my experience, at least for my industry m, it’s pretty smooth sailing to the US.
Not innocent, he just sees relationships as transactional and he sees leverage. It rubs people the wrong way I get it. But he’s using it.
No one knows for sure what will happen but I think the other side of it it working out and some progress towards that is underreported. You almost only hear negatives and people seeing the article you posted often think “hah! The US is losing bad and China is doing so good” because they don’t understand the nuances of trade if they don’t do it.
I get from the consumer POV it can be more negative. But I do think there is a lot of upside to be had if things go the US way and there are some signs of it.
From the Distributors view in the US, they have always been working on razor thin margins with large quantities, they are not happy
Also Trump is nervous, he continues talking about trade deal with China and others, while only coming out with a non binding frame work with UK so far… over a month gone, getting closer to the half way part of those 90 days…
Added: The issue with non binding frame works is of course that it means nothing, it’s like signing an MoU without price or quantity
I agree. I initially believed the pain would be somewhat equal although different. My view is slowly changing to the idea that the Chinese are more resilient. That was the Chinese of the past that survived a different era of the CCP.
Now these Chinese have had it good. At least those factory owners and their 2nd gen kids taking over. I’m especially talking about those SMEs that have been thriving selling to the US. I don’t think they’re anymore resilient than Americans.
And Americans are more resilient than I think given credit for.
I don’t think it’s being nervous. Everyone has been slowly softening. Even china silently removing tarrifs. They just won’t publicly announce it.
It’s how I thought it would go anyways. There’s no way any comprehensive trade deals get done so quickly. It takes time. But everyone is coming to the table quietly.
China is showing some good will, following Trumps lowering tariffs on electronic etc. It’s a good news as if both sides are willing to cut down their demands there is a chance for this trade war to have an ending in the future
That Fox News poll showing his popularity figures going down hurt his pride seriously…. He is nervous, that’s when he arrange those embarrassing meetings when all his direct reports job is to butter him up in front of the cameras….
I guess that’s a matter of guessing so no point arguing. I don’t think he’s nervous. Hes not running for reelection. I think he can afford to make unpopular decisions.
Whether you like Trump or not. Or even agree with him. Sometimes making popular decisions are bad long term. Lots of countries get in trouble because their leaders won’t make unpopular decisions for the long run.
I do see upside and I get there’s downside. I’m just saying the upside and signs of it are clearly underreported.
Mid terms 2026 are critical for him, if he loses that he will be a lame duck for 2 years…
Trump made an extremely stupid strategy mistake, he started a trade war with the whole world instead of fighting one front at a time. If he would have aligned with friendly countries and together gone against China, it could have been a success with less losses on our side
They’ve been playing hardball for ages, as anyone who’s tried to export US products to China knows. It’s only now that the US has decided - however clumsily - to fight back.
My wife just came back from a trip to Guangzhou, the government there is giving out stimulus for highend consumer tech purchases… so she got a new iphone.
Would appear they are attempting to pull levers re domestic consumerism.
Fascinating stuff …not… TikTokkers finding meat in a supermarket . Next episode Australian guy wants to brush his teeth and finds peppermint toothpaste , can’t fucking wait!
On the other hand I could keep scrolling to big titty dancing girls.
