Taroko and falling flying rocks

Saw a nice sized stone go through the windshield of a BMW during a storm on that strip. Luckily no fatalities. Went on their way soaked . Wondered how they dried the car out.

I hope the insurance situation doesn’t get out of control here. Taiwan is risky environment to hike or cycle in, just deal with it.

Nice choice of words! IMO, no changes will be made. There’s always some risk involved with cycling and hiking. And it really is a beautiful road to be cycling on (that is, until the last 10k of hell for your legs and lungs), and the challenge as the ultimate goal will remain. And so there will always be interest, regardless of the dangers. Finally, the amount psid to the family isn’t huge and only got to that level because of the publicity.

It’s not only Taroko, the while road from dayuling down has many rock falls. And many other mountain roads have quite some stone falls, every time after rain. It’s the geography and crazy rainfalls.
The danger acceptance in Taiwan for this is simply higher compared to US or Europe.

It’s a top local and International tourist draw.

Life will go on and people will continue to be injured from falling rocks.
