Tax refund

Can anyone help me out with this?

I want to claim my tax refund for last year now, but because the address on my ARC is in Taipei, I need to go to the Sanchong office to do so. The office is only open regular office hours at which time I am at school in Taoyuan. If I take the time off to go there, I will lose my pay for that day plus all my monthly bonuses. This will be between $4-5000NT and seen as that I don’t know how much money I’m entitled to claim back (somewhere in the region of $5-10k apparantly) I don’t really want to go.

Is it possible for someone else to go there and apply for me? Or can I apply by mail / internet?

I’ve read the stuff on their website but can’t make much sense although I think I won’t be able to do this from what it says on there.

If anyone has experience or knowledge with this I’d appreciate it.

Yes, somebody can do it for you. About 2 years ago I’ve done it for one of my friends who left Taiwan. All I needed was a letter from this person giving me permission to collect and sign for the check on his behalf. I think it’s called a proxy letter/statement and it must have all the relevant names and passport, ARC, tax and other numbers. Original letter with signature of course.

Good luck mate! It worked for me, hope it does for you. Maybe things changed a bit isince then…

you mean those ppl entitled to a refund can apply now? I thought I’d have to do a return or something when they send out the forms.

Have you thought of changing the address on your ARC? That can be done at the Police Station in Taoyuan. Make sure you bring a phone bill or some sort of proof. Takes 5 mins (I’ve done it like 3 times). After, you could go to the tax office in Taoyuan to do your taxes. When the check is ready you’ll have to go back to the tax office in Taoyuan to pick it up.

Similar to what Steeevieboy said, I moved to Tainan from Taipei half way thru the year, got my statements sent down from Taipei and filed them in the Tainan Office (filed both Taipei school stuff and Tainan school stuff in Tainan tax office)
No problem, got the money back a week later.
