Recently the government is looking to ban political conversations from occuring in Taxis. :loco: Says it too much of a disturbance…
Is that coming from the pan-blues? Any link?

Freedom of speech is curtailed on Taiwan by the pan-Green administration. The DPP are no friends of democracy on Taiwan…First they target the cabbies next the WSR.
Actually, one of my WSR friends was in Gaoxiong 2 years ago for the summer. When the cabbie heard his accent and determined he was a WSR, he kicked him out of the cab and refused to take his fare. I think discrimination like that should be prevented on Taiwan.
It used to be that taxi drivers were one of the the most subversive forces in Taiwan politics. Besides introducing customers to anti KMT sentiment they also played illegal (at the time) DPP radio stations.

Most cabbies that I talk to support the DPP, so I doubt that it’s the DPP who are targeting cabbies.
And btw ac: we say “in” Taiwan, not “on” Taiwan. It’s not a political thing, it’s an English grammar thing. Just like we say “in” Hawaii, not “on” Hawaii. Get it?
You mean there is difference
You mean when I’m on a seat in a cab, the cab is actually in Taiwan and not on Taiwan.
No wonder I get these strange looks riding in these cabs while singing KTV.
Clearly he is both “in” Taiwan and “on” Taiwan. Which word is used depends on how big you think Taiwan is…
Are you calling AC fat, because that is just mean! He has a medical condition!
I think the proper term to describe my ghetto fob-ulousness is “phat.”
As illustrated in this example sentence.
“ac_dropout is phat when he is on that KTV mic in the taxi.”

V says: AC learned English as a second language. When your Chinese is as good as his English, then correct him.
但是我喜欢人家改正我的中文。看dao任何错误,请帮我改,好不?
Girls, girls, please don’t fight over me.
There are plenty of grammatical errors to go around…
And I though you like me for my mind not my grammar… I feel so cheap and used.

V, I think you forgot to add the last 好 at the end. You meant to say “好不好”, right? 而且,我跟你一樣, 我希望人家可以糾正我的中文.
I don’t care if people correct my Chinese. Like you, I like it when people correct my grammar mistakes. I wish they’d do it more often so I don’t go around sounding silly.
ac’s very fluent in English, so I wasn’t sure if AC continues to say “on” Taiwan because as a diehard Commie supporter, he doesn’t want to imply that Taiwan is a country, or if he simply didn’t know better. He’s been posting on F.com for quite some time now. I think he must have noticed that all the Native English speakers say “in” Taiwan.
And V, you’ve been posting on Forumosa for some time too. Are you aware that we have a quote function?
erhu,
Please educated me on the subtle political difference between “on” and “in” for Taiwan.
For for islands, I use the convention started by the most honored and wisest of wise TV sages you referred to as Gilligan.
“Skipper, where are we?”
“We’re still on the island.”

Use the word “on” when you say island, but in most cases, not when you only say the proper name of the place (even if it is an island).
“I live on the island of Taiwan”
“I live in Taiwan”
Got it now?
Erhu, I know there is a quote function, but I’ve messed up using it, so I just do cut and paste. I don’t mind the extra effort and I think my quoting is clear to everyone. As for the ‘hao bu hao’, I was showing off my limited knowledge of Taiwanese by using the Taiwan Hua for ‘hao bu hao’, which is ‘he bo’. Also, I will not listen to AC’s protestations that we stop fighting over him. It’s to the death, you hear!!! PS AC and I used to have a language exchange where he corrected my Mandarin and I corrected his English, but he was toooo slow coming up with corrections for me, so I ditched the effort. Hear that AC!!! You don’t know how good you had it!!! I corrected you discretely and now you will have to suffer public corrections!!!
AC, I only knew of the existence of Harvard and Yale through Mr. Howell- that show broadened my horizons!!! Now prove that you watched the show by writing down the theme song lyrics- I challenge you!!
What wrong with women? Never satisfied, always want things faster and quicker. Nothing wrong with gettting it done in public. There’s nothing to be ashamed of. ![]()
Just sit right back and you’ll hear a tale,
a tale of a fateful post.
That started from this open IP port,
aboard this server host.
The mate was a mighty IT man,
the skipper corrupt and sure.
Five poster started posting that day,
for a wee hour flame war, for a wee hour flame war ………
The posters started getting rough,
the tiny sever was tossed.
If not for the courage of the fearless mod,
Forumosa would be lost; Forumosa would be lost.
The server topics went around that day and uncharted things were said,
with Grammer-Nazi, the Blue-guy too,
the TI supporter, and his knife,
the Commie Star, the Neocon and Jesus Man,
here on Taiwan Isle.
