I was wondering if anyone knew where to get TB tests – the kind you get under the skin on your arm – in Taipei? I’ve visited Wanfang Hospital but doctors there only carry out chest X-rays to test for TB. Another hospital had other tests, but not of the kind I needed. Thanks!
FYI: the under-the-skin TB test is a mandatory part of most health examinations carried out before matriculation into most US universities. Doctors stick a needle in your arm and inject something. In two days, if the spot gets red – you’re in trouble or you will have to wait in line again to get retested.
FWIW my aunt, who was a nurse, told me a few years back that the reason for the chest X-rays in lieu of tine tests for TB was the very high percentage of false positives in Asians with the test. Of course this is no reason to enforce it with foreigners, but…
