Teachers criticizing other teachers

My roommate and I went out with her new co-worker for dinner last night and she said one of the guys that has been there for three years has been taking about her behind her back and about several other teachers too, not for serious problems but things like, his class has more students in it, so he is better, she once in a while makes spelling mistakes as do other teachers, he almost never does, he’s better. He never takes holiday, the old timers (7-8 yrs) want time off once in a while (like every 3-4 months for a day or 2 ). He is kind of antisocial too from what she said. Does not socialize with other teachers/staff work and bye bye. Anybody have to deal with that? I could never do that to other teachers unless someone was beating students with a whip or slapping them. Jerk or not?

Jerk.

Slightly off topic (sorted of related I guess, like cousins by marriage)… but I’ve experienced problems before with teachers bringing their political biases to adult classes with them. Be they mainstream or off the wall nutty, the classroom ain’t the place.

I’ll always let them know that.

You don’t HAVE to be a teacher. I’m not, for example, but if you post a picture of yourself, I’ll give you two full pages of criticism and full-on personal insults covering everthing from the brand of toothpaste you’re using to the authenticity of your family lineage. I do this for FREE, too, purely out of the goodness of my heart.

But yeah. From what you write, he sounds like he’s a bit socially inept. If he’s as you describe, you’re probably not the only one to have noticed, his bosses included. We have one in our office – the poisoned dwarf she’s called, I believe, or sometimes the mad dog, although I have a sneaking suspicion that neither of those are her real name. Nobody pays her much attention.

I don’t think he is a jerk. Maybe he has higher standards and a stronger work ethic than the other teachers and therefore they dislike him for making them work harder or maybe they are poor teachers. He shouldn’t criticize the others too much but maybe, your friend is overreacting. If he is anti-social it might mean a lot of things. Perhaps he doesn’t like his co-workers. Maybe he likes to keep his private life, private. Maybe he feels he doesn’t have to be liked and therefore doesn’t share with the others. Who cares really?! Just as long as he is not being outright rude and threatening then she should just ignore him. Or…she should just ask him why he seems that way to her.

Even if this is true why does he feel the need to broadcast it to others? It says he likes to say "He’s better " . Who does that? If you really are you don’t need to.

Why don’t you tell him you don’t feel comfortable discussing other teachers in this way?

I don’t think you should be talking about him behind his back in this way. He probably uses forumosa as a place to vent about his crappy job.

Maybe he’s really good and committed, but surrounded by incompetent lazy wankers? Or maybe he’s insecure and wants to pull everyone else down? Who cares? The world is full of people doing things I don’t like. I find the best solution is just to get on with my work, and not socialise with teachers.

There, I corrected that for you.

Hooray for Chinese culture!!! :roflmao:

Thank you for your korectshuns!

Anyway from what she said. It’s the behind the back part the annoys everyone and he says only good things about himself. I myself like to talk to other teachers for ideas, problems we have in common and just because I like to be friendly with my co-workers if they are nice. Some people are jerks and everyone is not social, which is cool. But from what we heard the guy is talking bad about good hard working teachers doing normal things (like a day off :loco: ) and is very self centered. “I am the man not so and so and…”

So guy is criticizing other teachers and implying that he is the best buxiban teacher at the school. Wow! I don’t think I’ve met a single soul who was proud of being a buxiban teacher! This guy must be the biggest loser in history!

Why would you say that on a website frequented by many buxiban teachers? I know several who are rightly quite proud of what they do.
They probably, like me, feel that the real losers are the ones arrogant enough to look down their noses at the way some other people make their livings. :unamused:

When I used to work at Hess I used to tell people I was training a guerilla force of ten year olds ready to cut your ears off and make you watch while they cooked and ate them, all doped up on heroin and chanting revolution and down with the neo-colonialists. It probably wasn’t that far from the truth, and for those in the know, I probably would have garnered more respect if I had actually been doing that.

I have suspected teachers or working to get others fired before.

My hands up!
I’m a loser baby, so why don’t you kill me.

I’m even more repugnant. I’m a proud KINDY teacher!

The worst thing that can happen is to have the teachers facing off against each other at a buxiban. I wonder how this guy would do at a real elementary school were he has less contact with his co-workers :ponder: .
