I am hopefully going to be studying Chinese at Shi Da starting September, and have a Taiwan $25,000 / month scholarship - problem is that half of that is going to have to be sent back to the UK in debt repayment - so I need another source of funds, and English teaching part time is the obvious option. (I have a degree)
The website says I can at first apply for a visitor visa from the UK and then after 4 months if I am “in good standing” apply to change that to a resident visa.
But what about work permits, will I automatically be able to work because I am a student at Shi Da or will I have problems getting the permissions required to work legally.
Thanks for the help.
My understanding is that if you get your ARC through being a student (at Shi-Da, for example), then you are not allowed to work legally. So you can choose:
Illegal: Get an ARC as a student through Shi-da and work under-the-table.
Legal: Get an ARC as an employee of an English school, and go to Shi-da anyway.
