Teaching in the PRC

I have a friend who wants to teach in the PRC but doesn’t know where to begin; does anyone have any suggestions on how and where to start looking??

Be very careful about what your expectations are. Avoid big cities. I found it very hard to get by in Shanghai on 20,000 Renminbi a month. I see ads for teachers getting 3-4,000 RMB a month. That’ll only get you about 40 pints of Guinness a month.

wonderbread,

take a look at these two pages:

tatterdemalion, your reply was about 5 YEARS too late.

Can you give some more info on this please? 20k RMB is about 85k - 90k TWD. Was just a big shock that you said you had trouble living on that in Shanghai, but I’ve never been to Shanghai so might explain why I’m shocked coz I know so little.

heh heh heh… I just love recycling those old posts…heh heh heh

Hey, Creztor seemed to appreciate it.

I’m just curious about 80k NT in Shanghai now

Now:
80,000 Taiwan Dollar = 18,324.9 Chinese Yuan Renminbi

Feb 2002:
80,000 Taiwan Dollar = 18,884.4 Chinese Yuan Renminbi
