Techorange Global: Pretty cool new tech blog

This blog was recently brought to my attention, and it’s pretty cool: en.techorange.com

From their “about” page:

We hope to reach the English-speaking audience who are interested in the development of Asia’s Internet and technology landscape.

Here at TechOrange Global, we strongly believe in delivering information through an unfiltered and unbiased lens to allow readers to take the most from our articles. We welcome open discussion and promote an environment in which our coverage can provide real and meaningful insight to our readers. TechOrange Global’s ultimate aim is to directly connect our readers to the exciting climate of Asia’s tech start-up industry despite the thousands of miles that might separate them.[/quote]

Their most recent article is an interview with Groupon Taiwan. Interesting stuff!

Thanks for the kind words.

Lately, we’ve been hearing a lot of complaints about the lack of meaningful news coverage on the start-up industry in Taiwan. Over at TechOrange Global, we’re hoping to solve this problem. In addition to providing general news about China and Taiwan, we aim to bring in-depth interviews with Taiwanese entrepreneurs and investors every Friday.

Unsurprisingly, most people here entirely overlook the software industry (Web 2.0) due to successful and profitable decades within its developed hardware industry.

In my opinion, it’s soon about to change.
Here’s 3 reasons why I think Taiwan offers a great environment for start-ups and may begin producing some industry-disruptive ideas:

  1. In the past, Taiwanese students have always tended to gravitate towards the study of hardware. Today, however, these talented engineers are switching their interests (and even their majors) in expectations of joining the growing and exciting software industry.
  2. Taiwan plays a particularly interesting role as several Taiwanese start-ups are aiming to include China’s massive market within their business models. Additionally, Japanese investors are looking to Taiwan as the acting intermediary to reach China’s consumers.
  3. The venture capital atmosphere is just beginning to take form in Taiwan. Incubators like AppWorks are producing very successful start-ups.

I’d love to hear your thoughts about Taiwan’s tech start-up industry and its future. Let me know if you have any general questions about the industry here (I’ll try my best to answer them).

Thanks,
Ray

EDIT- We’re also planning on having a page of ongoing tech events in Taipei. There was just a great Mobile Monday a few days ago. Be on the lookout!

Hey guys,

Last Friday, we had an awesome interview with EZtable.

Have any of you guys used EZtable (eztable.com.tw/) before? It’s quite a useful website for anybody in Taiwan… it lets you reserve tables online at five-star restaurants. Definitely easier than calling in and penciling a time in.

Let us know if you’re curious about any specific start-ups that you’ve seen in Taiwan… we’re trying to cover the news that our audience is most interested in. Any feedback about content you’d like to see would be great.

We’re hoping to cover iPeen soon.
