I guess you never passed first year!
Temped by a Chomsky lover no doubt!
:uhhuh:
Absolutely childish that this was temped.
But it looks like it will have company soonâŚ
Feel free to discuss Chomsky , or anything else that is relevant to the discussion. Personally I find your posts informative, most of the time. I think your post needed a few more words to clarify you were proffering an opinion on Chomsky and not just taking a cheap shot at Formosa Fitness.

Nope, at least I can see in you seem to think being a Chomsky fan, (no matter that the OP no longer is) constitutes a sin. I hadnât realized what a lighting rod he is to some. Not that it adds much to the discussion, but educational in the fact that the mere mention of his name is likely going to spark a reaction.

As I hope I have made clear, I respect your comments.
Chomsky has become a icon to the left and a anathema to those who chose to not become acolytes to his message.
His polarization has indeed become a point of contention which colors and affects whatever may be under discussion and analysis prior to his name, and involvement, may come to mention.
Chomsky should have stuck with linguistics. Some of his political earlier works had some academic merit, I would suppose, but eventually hubris took over.
I enjoyed a few of his books, but as soon as I went to see him speak, the necessary illusion was shattered. Most of his core supporters would seem to revel in the very same manufacture of consent that Chomsky has oft maligned.
One hopes that you would appreciate contrarian opines.
Thatâs better.

One would hope that people would be able to differentiate between an opinion and a potty mouthed remark, the totally of the post.
âI guess you never passed first year!â minus smiley faces.
Is not a opinion on Chomsky, nor is it some deep insight worthy of note or you coming and whining about it like a 2 year old having a hissy fit. It added nothing to the debate, attacked the messenger and not the message, and looked to me just to be plain insulting to Formosa Fitness who started the topic and was posting politely.
But feel free to make an ass of yourself here in temp, tell us how much meaning these 7 words (plus smiley faces) which were replaced by an almost identical post by TC, with the difference it didnât look like all he was saying was âHar har, youâre a dumb shitâ have for you.
Actually Mick, I donât think anyone was arguing about how much those remarks add to the discussion. I think the issue and the protest around the temping of the posts has more to do with an inability to distinguish ribbing from a personal attack. Personal attack? Seriously? Did Formosa Fitness complain or are you trying to tell us that FFâs lack of indicating any personal offense is due to this horrible and viscious âattackâ leaving him a drooling, quivering mass of jello on the floor somewhere?
Sorry kido, but I donât think for a minute that if the ribbing was done with a Bush supporter as the target that this would have found itâs way to temp with the same prejudice.
I agree Gman, it could have been taken either way. I saw it as ribbing, which is what the smiley faces were there for and Im sure how it was intended. There were no complaints, but since it was adding nothing to the debate trashed it on the off chance it derailed the discussion, which would be a shame as it was proving to be an interesting topic.
Next time Iâll send a PM to whoever to kindly ask them to reword so that the comments donât get taken the wrong way.
About being left/right wing, the last thing I temped was from the left bashing the right and was the entire topic, not just 7 words halfway through a thread. It might have made for a good discussion too except the way it was brought up was in an overly aggressive, confrontational manner. But in general, I would say your observation is correct, the site has had right wing posters pigeon holed and treated more harshly in the past. The blue leaning also has had the same treatment in TP forum. IMO.

One of the most insulting remarks Iâve ever seen here. Poor form, jdsmith.
I hear this a lot but I never see it happening. I donât buy it, but Iâm willing to be convinced.

Youâve got to be F^%*ing kidding me. Check the first Republican presidential primary thread where I asked for it to be pruned of off topic posts, and the first post temped was from Chewdawg for saying Rich people make better leaders with the reason given as it was baiting to liberals. That was after 2 requests to have nasty posts taken down for not having much to do with the thread from people who consider any republican a baby loving mass murderer.

One would also hope, but maybe itâs different for the left minded, that a MOD would would strive for some semblance of objectivity.
I guess not?
Why wonât the mods just stick to moderating?
Somehow they think in the new flob that they get to have their cake and eat it as well.
Intellectual minions!
Fred was right!

This is pure baloney. Mick temped a personal attack. These are against the rules for good reason. Maybe FF would have found it hilarious, or maybe he wouldnât have liked it. Heâs a moderator, not the Amazing Kreskin. The post had no value in that thread anyway.
Do you guys really temp each other based on politics? That would be a bit dumb. Talking of dumb⌠in this thread a moderator (who usually makes excellent judgement calls) and some others are talking about how much they like girls with big tits. http://www.forumosa.com/taiwan/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=106395&start=10 It is in spectacularly bad taste. All joking aside, making comments about ditching girls from your sofa for having small breasts has to get a good old hearty WTF???
Are you kidding? You donât see it?
I already showed that a thread entitled exists, but, a thread entitled Is Obama the Antichrist was Flamed. And the Mods were absolutely OK with that decision.
Youâre willing to be convinced?
Strange said inconsistency would seem to indicate a preference on the
Part of the moderators to cater to their personal prejudices.

Yes, it might. But Tigermans example is from 4 years ago, with a completely different set of Mods in IP, none of which I would criticize as itâs a thankless job, where good intentions often result in pages of insults. As this thread aptly demonstrates.
The Mods are not the Borg, some like Tigerman (and please correct me if I misstate your position), have been working very hard to convince other Mods to adapt a strict adherence to the rules, others feel gut feelings about smurf accounts, past behavior of a poster and so on should be allowed that may as you say lead to inconsistencies.
Previously, I would have said I strongly supported Tigermans position. But that belief has been strongly weakened following this exchange, my deepest respect goes to all those who chose (and note I say âchoseâ because we think Forumosa is a place of value not that we have a reward, quite the opposite). I extend nothing but respect to those Mods who chose to do the moderating for so many years.
Temped because it just wasnât funny and made me wince, plus not adding anything of value, ChewDawg was quick to call me a âChomsky loverâ, who I knew the name but looked him up to learn more, I assumed a liberal from ChewDawgs comment, but wondered exactly what it was I was being accused of. Well, while those from the liberal arts may have all have had to study him, I was studying the works of people like Hidetsugu Yagi instead.
But it was not enough to start a flame war over his terribly witty comment, jumps over to another forum (which I am not Mod) and demands of those Mods why a post in a completely unrelated forum and thread is not being tempted like his precious dig at Forumosa Fitness (all 7 words of them). viewtopic.php?f=30&t=106432 and proceeds to continue arguing there with the Mods of that forum and anyone who will listen.
Iâm sorry, but I donât see this as mature behavior. Regarding this issue, feel free to post your opinions, but remember we are human too and make mistakes, I have got involved in heated debates I wished I hadnât, not wanting to moderate the person I was debating with and other mods less likely to step in an mod for the same reason, harsher comments aimed at me (which typically I might see temped in the past) remain, you live and learn.
