Tequila Sunrise

Has anybody know where is Tequila Sunrise? I have heard they have some nice tacos and burritos, plus great fajitas at a cheaper price then Grandma Nitties. Is the food good there?

Its on Xinsheng South Road, just south of the intersection with Hsin Hai Road and opposite NTU.

Is it good? Mixed reviews – I think the food is unimaginative, overpriced and basically yeuch, (apart from the chimichangas, which are almost so-so) – but I spent two years cooking the best Mexican in Europe before I came here, so I’m probably biased.

Other people seem to like Tequila Sunrise just fine.

Ditto on what Sandman says. I just got back from Southern California, and got a good reminder of just how badly the Taiwanese attempts at Mexican food are.

Tequila Sunrise has very spotty service. Even though they might give you something called a “taco”, and even if it has many of the same ingredients, the flavor you’ll get won’t remind you of anything you’d get anywhere near Mexico.

I haven’t been there for some time, but if it is the same as before – don’t bother. Typical Taiwanese replacation of Mexican. The best thing at TS several years ago was the owner, Moonjade. Talk about mouth-watering…

Do you think the flavour will never get near to being “origin” mexican because of the ingredients. Like, its hard to find some good ingredients here. For example, hojas de laurel(dont know the english name for it) or maybe some good chilli beans (?). These chillie beans come in red and brown as well. Its dry, so if you squash them, you can make a good chilli sauce out of it. Too bad, it would be great having some Mexican Tacos, ORALE!!!

The Pi (the nachos for the covering in tacos) is hard to find as well.

:frowning: … but is the TS place opened, where is it?

Tequila Sunrise is located at:
No. 42, Xinsheng South Road, Section 3, Taipei.
It is open from 11:30 to 9:30 every day.
How’s that for an ad?
Go at your own risk.

I just the other day, I heard a service horror story about Teq Sun.
Recently, a friend went there for her birthday with a couple others and she’d prepaid for a set menu. She had never got her food by the time she had to leave, and they didn’t even refund her money. I would have raised HOLY HeyALL, but my friend is Taiwanese, hence face saving…

I remember several years back going in there with a friend who ordered a scotch, and got it two hours later…we didn’t pay the service charge, needless to say, as there wasn’t any.

Has anyone been here in the last nine years?

I think it might have already closed down.

Nah, it’s still there. Went there a few months ago. Might have been a year. It was OK, but certainly nothing special. The other people I was with (mostly Taiwanese) said the same. I suspect some of the little places (I remember someone just posted about a new one near Shi Da?) will do a better job.

As rockgirl says, it’s probably not entirely their fault; you really can’t get the ingredients. One reason I just got myself some land - I want to see how much of the stuff I like will grow in Taiwan’s climate

btw, there’s a place near me (Danshui) called Eddy’s Cantina. Just google it. I’d say it’s more US Tex-Mex style than “genuine” Mexican though. Give it a go and let me know what you think!

They did open a branch in Tianmu for a little while, but it didn’t last long. That one on Xinsheng S Rd. has been there for many years.

Eddy’s thread is here.

I don’t understand how they’ve managed to stay in business all these years, while Amy’s La Casita, which was much better, went out of business. :ponder:

I MUCH prefer Eddy’s Cantina’s food to anything I ever got at Amy’s. Amy’s was good, sure – been going there since she had her place in Gonnguan 20 years ago --, but not a patch on Eddy’s, IMO.
Also, I’m not so sure she went out of business rather than closed up shop to do something else. Although the last incarnation of the restaurant off Songjiang Rd was a pretty crappy location for a restaurant, I always thought. Always seemed so far out the way, to me, for some reason.

I was there a while back.
The food tasted good, but I thought it was overpriced and the portions were way too small. Haven’t been back, even though it’s right down the street.
