Terminal Man

There appears to be a man from India stuck at CKS airport, sleeping on a bench at night, visa papers from Korea or something, no ticket home or something. TVBS has news today. Who is he, how did he get into this predicament and why does he have to sleep at the terminal?

It’s like the Taiwan version of that Tom Hanks movie about the Iranian guy stuck at Paris airport.

Does anybody know what’s happening? Nothing about it in the English papers.

The airport in the movie was in New York.
The airport in the movie was in New York.
The airport in real life that the film was inspired by was in Paris, but you’re right, I don’t think that was Tom Hanks.

Really? I always though the French government had a rather liberal attitude towards offering political and other forms of asylum. Didn’t Khomeini get a house in the suburbs and a monthly stipend during his exile in France?

So what about this Indian dude stuck at CKS this week? The news loops every hour or so on TVBSFTCETTVCTSPTSSET…

The Terminal …tells the story of Partha Seth (Tom Hanks), a visitor to Taiwan from India, whose homeland erupts in a fiery coup while he is in the air en route to Seoul. Stranded at CKS Airport with a passport from nowhere, he is unauthorized to actually enter the ROC and must improvise his days and nights in the terminals international transit lounge until the war at home is over. As the weeks and months stretch on, Partha finds the compressed universe of the CKS terminal to be a richly complex world of absurdity, generosity, ambition, amusement, status, serendipity and even romance with a beautiful flight attendant named Chen Su-mei…

All about him here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Merhan_Karimi_Nasseri. “Sir Alfred” didn’t kill and torture his opponents, so wasn’t qualified for a house and lots of government money.

And Nasseri lived at the Paris airport for, like, 5 years, and he is still there.

What did this Indian guy do? Can’t he at least come in for a 14 day stay? There are lots of Indian hitech computer people here working in Taipei, Hsinchu, can’t anybody help him?

His story keeps changing, and he’s been offered the ability to leave. There is some question as to whether he’s insane. Not just because of his staying in the airport for several years, either.

This Indian man claims that he paid three thousand USD in India in order to come to Taiwan and make money. However, his tourist visa was only for fourteen days. He also read the date on his return ticket wrong. He went to the airport on the 22nd, when his flight was on the 21st. And all the flights to New Delhi are full from now until Dec. 5th.

He’s been sleeping in the CKS airport for many days. Reporters and clerks from the convenience store have been giving him food, since he has only a few hundred nt left.

Now the Indian embassy says they’ll try and help him find a earlier flight home.

lupillus,
you are a great researcher! thanks. so he IS Taiwan’s new terminal man! thanks for filling in the details. why we are at it, since you know the news so well, who is that comedian actor on TV news today, seems his daughter of 23 visited him on the set of a show recently, he didn’t know he had a daughter or something? who is he or who is she? and where did she come from? some friend of Jacky Wu et all…
. And all the flights to New Delhi are full from now until Dec. 5th.

I can’t believe ALL THE FLIGHTS to India are booked until December 5th. Something not kosher in that news report. Not one seat available? No way.

But I am sure the Indian embassy or trade office here will take of him. Now that he’s in the news. Looked a very nice chap!
