TFETP English Teaching Assistant general questions

Hi all,

I’m hoping to apply for the TFETP ETA job next year. At that time I will have a masters degree and TESOL certification. I’m looking to complete a year of working as an ETA with TFETP then apply for a job as a teacher with the same program. I just had a few general questions.

  1. Is this a good plan? Has this worked for others? I could potentially complete a quick teacher licensure program here in the US, but it’s unlikely.
  2. How competitve is the program? Is it easy to become an ETA? Does being an ETA with TFETP help your application to become a teacher the following year?
  3. How guaranteed are placements? I would like to work in Taipei, New Taipei, or Taoyuan city, nowhere else really.
  4. Are there any other options for someone with my qualifications? I would like to apply to many different jobs just to have options available. What can I really do with a masters degree, TESOL certificate, no teaching experience or license?

Any help anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated! Thank you for your time!

I’d get your stateside teaching certification for sure.

As for 3., good luck. You can give your preferences, but they’ll put you where they want or need you.

4., this is why you should just buckle down and get your license. What state are you in?

There are a few thread about this program make sure you read them. :+1:
