Thai / Vietnamese Iced Tea

I love the Thai iced tea that I get from Taiwan Thai restaurants ditto at the Vietnamese restaurants as it is very similar, perhaps the same thing. Could someone tell me how to make this and where I can find the ingrediants. Is it just a powder mix? Is there a different way to make it with a certain type of tea leaves and milk and sugar and other herbs? Anyone actually tried to make it here and have success in duplicating the tea from the restaurants?

You can buy the Thai tea leaves in some thai shops around town and make it
yourself buy boiling the leaves in a big pot of water for 20 minutes til its concentrated and then adding creme and sugar. Once cooled you put in the refridge and serve over ice. The leaves come in a big package that will last for quite some time. The last bag I bought was at one of the shops in Chungho Thai town area. You’ll find it wherever there are shops catering to overseas Thai workers. THai tea contains cloves and orange coloring.

I love Thai Iced Tea too, Last time I was at the supermarket down at Sogo’s and I saw the pre-prepared packages made, kind of like instant coffee. I don’t remember the brand though. They are in the coffee/tea section.

they key to thai iced tea is condensed milk, which is available in any supermarket in a small tin. the brand i am familiar with is “carnation” but any will do. condensed milk is sweet and has a consistancy somewhere between milk and custard.

to make thai iced tea simply make your tea to the strength you like it and let it cool. add ice and lastly add condesed milk (you won’t need too much cuz its really quite sweet). mix and enjoy!

You wont have thai tea if you use regular tea and condensed milk. Thai tea is black tea with spices and coloring added. The condensed milk part is right although I use regular powder cremer and make big premade jugs of thai tea and it works just fine.
