🇹🇭 Thailand ! Thoughts on Krabi

I have a weeks annual leave to burn in Thailand (have to be in BKK for footy). Having already spent a lot of time in Phuket and Khao Lak I was thinking of Krabi but I’ve heard some advice to avoid it as it’s full of twenty year old poms, you know the sort, “I was so arseholed last night. Where we going tonight?” Any thoughts?

Big couples destination. Backpackers. I wouldn’t go alone unless i had specific interest in the area. Been thrice with gfs.

Decent town, great beaches. The stuff to avoid you say sounds more like Phuket? Easy to get to a number of places from there so no worries if you get bored.

Well I was there 27 years ago …incredible and there a couple of years ago and not so incredible.

I mean Krabi has one of the worlds most beautiful beaches on its doorstep, Railey Beach but the fucking long tail boats revving up from about 7am ruined it., fortunately we did have the beach to ourselves for about 20 mins around dawn which was spectacular. Over tourism and shitty management sucks. Man it was amazing back in the day. Magical.
Still a nice part of the world with the amazing scenery don’t get me wrong but I’m thinking might not be your cup of tea altogether.unless you can go to the edges of it or check what you really want. Or you are into rock climbing.The town itself is very meh.

Looking it up on the map the area of Krabi covers a koh lanta and Koh pipi etc. I like Koh lanta but again …hmm…not quite what it was. Anyway as a base to set out from I guess it gives you choices.

I rented a car to get around the area and found driving very pleasant there and it gave me a lot of freedom but I’m sure that’s not necessary either.

Looks like you were lucky to have made it there a couple of years before Leonardo Dicaprio!

(I mean that general area, before any pedants want to correct me. :innocent:)

I was there exactly when they were filming the beach actually so I got my maths wrong.

Krabi isn’t my style. I really enjoyed Koh Lanta. It’s not far from Krabi.
