(note, I thought I was adding this post to the Taipei Times thread, but must have pushed a wrong button because it ended up in its own thread. To make the tie in, the folks on the tapei times thread were talking about the half page ad the KMT had run on the front page of the Times)
Thanks folks for reminding me about the No Truth No President ad. I had spaced it out and todays Times is already at the bottom of the kitty box, but I was able to fish it out.
The reason being, I want to get my english pamphlet on “Bulletgate”. Someday I am going to write an “insiders” expose of that cluster-f*ck; oh, I mean the careful professional investigation of the attempted murder of Miss Modest and how it won Brillcream Boy a second term.
Taiwan really is a hoot once you stop taking it seriously.
seriously, thanks for the reminder.
take care,
Brian the Ballistics Boy

boy that sounds like something to look forward to. taiwan must really be a hoot when you’re cynical enough to ridicule people getting shot at.
What does a half page advert on the front page of the TT cost? Around NT$100,000? More?
Who paid for the advert?
The type just said PAN BLUE SUPPORTS but did not list a real name for the ad sponsor. Must be KMT. I guess the TT took the money and ran the ad, distasteful as it must have been to do so, just to prove that, yes ,freedom of speech is allowed in Taiwan, unlike in some other places…

When people want to pay you money to make morons of themselves, and you don’t like them to begin with, can you really say no?
Daltongang, Let me set you straight, the locals don’t value their existence, why should I?
Plus when they “play comedy” like Bulletgate, sure, they take a risk; but they don’t care why should I. Just enjoy the comedy of it.
If Brillcream Boy valued his life why an open motorcade, no vest, standing next to Miss Modest (whom the bulk of the DPP despise too and would prefer to see “sidelined”). Local politicos act like cartoon characters then they get treated like cartoon characters. I don’t wring my hands when Wiley Coyote gets hurt, I don’t go into spasms of concern when Moe jabs Curly (of the 3 Stooges) in the eyes…I don’t care when…well you can carry out the analogy.
Let me give you the big picture; reason, compassion, volunteerism, spirit of public service and other virtues…have no place in Taiwan. Be serious.
take care, and remember Laughter is the Best Medicine

laughing at inappropriate things is a good sign that the men in the white suits are going to come get you. maybe it’s time for a vacation.
They run the ad in China Post too. I just had to find my scissors. I will buy a nice frame and hang it on the wall. Then later on in life when living somewhere else it will remind me about all the stupidity everywhere in Taiwan.
This ad made my day yesterday. How about today? Well, havn’t opened the newspaper yet!
I have one other fun thing I collected from Dalian in PRC.
Everybody knows the sign “Don’t disturb” that you hang outside your hotel door if you need some rest. Well the Chinese had developed it somewhat further. It said:
“Treatment in progress, please do not disturb”
This sign is also hanging on my wall now!
US has Mr. Cowboy Bush and Taiwan has Mr. Brillcream Boy.
Can the world get more crazy?
OK, I called them and tried to get them to mail me a copy of the brochure. I did it all in English, refused to speak slowly, and in general did what I could to waste their time.
The guy answering the call had a very shaky grasp of that language.
In the end, they promised to call back, and I gave them my fax no.
