That start-up conference for foreigners

Who planning to go to that start-up conference? The one on 3/5?

I have a business idea I think could really work out and I am thinking about starting a business but don’t really know exactly where to start.

I had an e-mail from CAPT about a conference: www.enspyre.com/eec anyone will go? I could really need those 200K prize they have since I don’t really have a lot of startup capital. But is it for real? Anyone heard of Enspyre before?

try the search function on this site - enspyre has been mentioned numerous times in this very section of forumosa

I’m going.

I have been in touch with Elias about this and it sounds like a good one. There’s a lot of interest from sponsors, and I believe he’s going to be able to drop the price even further AND offer more prizes. I’ll let him make his own announcement tho’.

Anyone else?

Id love to go as well but can’t rsvp- either Im crap or there is something wrong with their site- probably both- anyone had similar problems?

If you can’t get through to them by any other means then email enspyre01@ingeniousity.net

Sounds interesting. Might take the train up from lovely Tainan to attend.
Can this thread be made a “sticky” until the event is over?

Sounds like a great idea. I have just retired from the teaching trade and this sounds like exactly what I need to get the wheels in motion for my own company.

I will look into this conference in more detail. Thanks for the info.

Cheers

I talked to Elias as well, and it really does look like there will be a lot of useful info ideas there for starting a business. My own small business could do with some helpful ideas, that’s for sure!

I’m going to invite Jane Lewis of Open Quest to host an idea party the day after the seminar, and propose that we adjourn to the pub afterwards.

Tentative schedule: 1pm @ offices close to TaiDa University, for 2 hrs

From what I understand, the format is that each attendeee gets a short time to outline a situation or problem for discussion, and invites comments or suggestions. The session is guided and there are rules/procedures to keep things on track and useful for everyone.

Might as well make a weekend of it for those coming from out of town! Does anyone care to suggest a Saturday night activity?

Uh, how about a marathon game of Cashflow or Monopoly?

Just an idea. I’ll try to think of more

ok, cool so many are going. I heard from a friend who works for one of the other sponsors that some VC’s will be there as well. Anyone knows any good resources for finding out best way to pitch a business idea for a VC?

Also, anyone ever advertised in TT?

Thanks,
tc

I have been doing some trading on the side while teaching here in Taiwan for the last couple of years and recently decided to have a go at sell Taiwan products back home SA.

It has been growing quite well but I now need to have something more formal here in Taiwan and need advise on how to go about this.

Will your conference help?

PAz76 - as someone who has run a business in Taiwan I’d say getting good advice on how to set up is invaluable. The accountant attending the seminar is apparently very good - wish I’d met her when I first set up, would have saved me a lot of headaches!

I’m also looking forward to meeting other entrepreneurs at the seminar…it’s always nice to learn from those smarter and more experienced than myself (which includes about 98% of the population!)

tc1976 - check out Busines 2.0, Red Herring and Inc.com for info on pitching VCs. Loads of info, although most of the “how to” is from the good old dotcom glory days…

How to pitch to a VC - make sure your projected returns are greater than the ones they are currently achieving through their other investments. know your audience.

Google is a wonderful thing:
google.com.au/search?hl=en&q … arch&meta=

Keep all presentations to under 15 minutes. This is usually the most time they will give you. Another tip for VC’s… have a 30 second elevator pitch ready at all times.

Cover areas such as -

  • purpose, product, opportunity and requirement (ie $)
  • compettiive advantages, prod performance, cost advantages, IP
  • potential market, size, growth, how to access (4 ps)
  • who is the top m’ment team, credentials?
  • projected sales and financial returns (VERY important to VC)
  • what is on offer and what is requested.

For those of you still on the fence as to whether or not to attend, here’s my two cents worth …

I’ve known the conference coordinator, Elias Ek, for a couple of years now and can vouch for his knowledge and expertise in the area of business start-ups. In fact, I’m presently using his services.

Basically if you’ve got an idea for starting a business (or even if you don’t have an idea yet but aim to find one), then I suggest you make an effort to attend. I mean think about it … for $900, you get:

  1. a full-day conference
  2. a free all-you-can-eat dinner (that’s worth nearly $900 itself; and since it’s a brand-new restaurant, I assume they’ll be trying to impress people with the grub!)
  3. a chance to win all those prizes
  4. a learning opportunity (imagine that)
  5. a networking opportunity

I just went through the trials and tribulations of starting my own business, and all I can say is, “it’s too bad this conference wasn’t held last year.”

All the info you’ll need, packed into a single day.

What more could you ask for?

Coming at this pretty late in the day-- but not too late I hope-- can anyone provide a few more details of this conference, such as, who, what, where, when, how-- I think I got the why. . .

You could try their web site page. Should have all that you need.

Hi everyone, for those of you who I met at the Tavern on Sunday - nice to see you! Personally I ate waaaaay too much of the buffet! It was just too good

I just wanted to correct one thing. MAW mentioned that you will get a lot fom $900. Well, thanks to an extra cash contribution from one of the partners we have been able to lower the price to $500. And if you RSVP ahead of time it costs only $250! See www.enspyre.com/eec for more info.

take care,
Elias

Elias,

What do you mean by get a lot at 900. On your website it says NT500 at the door or NT250 RSPV.

Elias corrected MAW’s post.

I spoke with Elias a couple days ago and RSVP is 250.
