I found a boxset of documentaries of Taiwan made in Japanese colonial period. And also found a website of the project to digitally restore those old films made in that era.

BTW, those two series have English subs. I like the one with Taiwanese Opera performer.

I don’t understand everything that’s going on in the films, but they’re fascinating. Thanks for the information.
