The best place to holiday this winter

I’m just curious. I’ve been in Taiwan almost two years now (time flies when you’re having fun!!!) and I’m thinking I need a holiday. Two weeks at best, as I still have to keep my job, and I want any sub I get to do her or his best to keep up with my fairly intense plans for the little ones.

I would like to finally see Thailand, India, Northern china, Tibet, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, the Phillipines, Japan, or many other places that are “regional” and fairly cheaply accessible by flight. I like asian culture, and I’m not poor, but I would like to go somewhere…

I’m not rich, either. I don’t need 5 star service or people fawning over me as i’ve travelled before, but I do require good food and a good clean bed to sleep on. Cable TV to lull me off to sleep is good…

I’m not a big fan of backpacker hostels.

Any suggestions for this winter? I know that regionally, the weather is not neccessarily tourist friendly and all that. just hoping for the best.\

I would like to buy some ethnic tourist stuff to hang on my walls, too.

Any suggestions for around christmas/ new Years? I can take a holiday from mid Nov. to mid Jan. I would like to stay in asia. I’ve been a little bit interested in Australia, but not much. I’ve heard good things about Bali, but I’m a little bit concerned about the bombings and such…

I welcome any comments from seasoned travellers or travel agents. Please post in the forum or PM me!

thanks,

smashy

My obvious choice would be Thailand. There are fairly cheap flights from Taipei on KLM and China, and China also has a non-stop from KHH.
The food is absolutely fantastic. You can find great food out on the streets at any time of day or night. Where you go depends entirely on how much time you have and what interests you. There is plenty to do and see in Bangkok if you like cities. If you like beaches, there are too many options to list. Or you can head up north and do some trekking.
If you provide some more info on your interests, I’m sure you’ll get alot of ideas.
