I have been in Taiwan for a time and the phenomenon of strolling hand in hand in the mall or a big shopping store like IKEA ,while just looking, with your loved one still has made any sense to me. :loco: Care to explain. And add your favorite date place.

A dark, secluded place where noise doesn’t carry within earshot of others. Preferably close to a soft, damp spot of soil, easier on my digging hands that way. In proximity to a stream of running water, to wash off the…messiness.

That depends on whether the “my” in the phrase “my bedroom” is being evaluated by reference or by value.

It’s about ‘the dream’ about togetherness and bringing the domestic ideal close enough to touch, it’s about bringing forward the start date for a life together which is achievable.
Then you buy an unpronouncable lampshade. Forget to buy the bulb. Then argue. Then talk on the phone all week seeking reconciliation until the following Sunday when the whole ritual is repeated.

It appeals to the ladies’ fantasies of middle class security and lifestyle. Since in Taiwan that’s at least as powerful a fantasy as the usual romance over a candlelit dinner, it can be effective.
Oh hell no, it can’t be that. The guys with them look just as lulled in to some part of the lie also. Sometimes not even more. And what about the families, especially at costco, who shop and then have a full dinner of rotissie chicken at the end.
Silly virgins…the public park is the best place to take a date at night in Taiwan. Nothing like the privacy behind a bush with only the bugs to keep you company.
It’s how one distinguishes between love and lust here in Taiwan. Your feelings are determined by the type of retail shopping you engage in. IKEA is considered romantic, Costco is just downright dirty amd pornographic.
I like Costco.

Broonale, thank you for that laugh, I nearly choked on my Family sized Ruffle chip bought at costco. 
I always thought the couples browsing IKEA were doing the “someday we’ll have a living room this stylish, but until middle age comes, we’ll live in my parents’ house”.
Do any of you know for a fact that these couples are not actually buying stuff but simply on a browsing date? I’ve been to IKEA a few times and seen lots of couples (oh my god, couples shopping ). But most of them seemed to be buying.
As for families in Costco, what, you’ve never seen a family shopping together where you come from? What exactly is unsual about that?

I think he is joking old chap. Having said that, shops are less of a ‘destination’ where he hails from. More time is spent in real homes not imaginary ones put together differently each week from the pages of a catalogue. As for watching families in Costco, well there are some pretty tasty reluctant female teenage shoppers being dragged around by their parents. That feistiness on the girls’ part is quite alluring don’t you think?

Actually, with the Olympics on over there at the moment, Greece is a pretty hot place to take a date, or rather get one; plantations everywhere. Morocco’s good too.
