Abstract:
Beyond their formal authority and personal expertise, managers in today’s global business environment rely increasingly on informal networks to mobilize the resources necessary to gets things done inside their organizations and with their outside business partners. In this seminar, we will briefly present the recent research findings from management and sociological research on social capital and highlight its importance for business leaders. We will then discuss some key principles for building and maintaining effective, result-oriented social networks necessary for you and your business to succeed in the modern globalized economy.

Speaker:

Prof. Didier Guillot joined CUHK’s Faculty of Business Administration as a Professional Consultant in the summer of 2009. His main research and teaching interests include Organizational Theory & Leadership, Corporate Strategy, Cross-cultural and Cross-institutional Management, Networks and Alliances. Prof. Guillot has received his graduate education from the Pierre-Mendes-France University in Grenoble, France, Kyoto University in Japan and the University of California at Berkeley in the US. His professional journey before joining CUHK took him through both governmental and academic positions, working for French Trade Commission in Japan and teaching at INSEAD (on both Singapore and Fontainebleau campuses) and the City University of Hong Kong. At CUHK, Prof. Guillot teaches Strategy and Management courses in several different programs. Besides the “Strategy in a Global Arena” global course in the OneMBA Program, He is also in charge of the “Strategic Management” course in the full-time MBA program and in the Postgraduate Diploma in Global Finance.
