The cult of real estate ownership

The prices will come down when the missiles start flying.

That’s 10 ping or 36.5 sqm. It’s a bedroom disguised as an apartment.

I think they are betting on the place being bought up to put a new complex, they maybe can get a new double or triple the size apartment out of it.

After you move out I hope.

The price of a commercial property is directly linked to its rental price. Therefore, landlords have to constantly raise rents to maintain the facade that their properties are rising in value.

It’s all explained in this article:

Also the new house price index is out, check out Hsinchu, up 23% yoy

Crazy amount of empty houses, shameful while still building so many and pumping out CO2.

Hainchu is no surprise because of the semiconductor boom.

Maybe they come down much earlier.
Lets wait for the impact of EverGrande and JinMao.

The bubble is getting ready to bust! (said posters on this very forum, 10+ years ago…)

Even those whose annual income exceeds NT$1 million cannot seem to afford a home in Taipei if they are looking at an apartment with an elevator and residential guard, according to real estate businesses.

No, I make just under 1 millionNT and I can’t afford a home in Taipei that doesn’t have an elevator or a residential guard. Once again, the people writing about this don’t seem to be aware of the actual cost of home ownership in this country.

I’m not sure if I said that, but I certainly feared that we were buying our apartment just as the bubble was about to burst. (Mild caveat: New Taipei City, not Taipei itself.)

We’re now 13 years into the 20-year mortgage.

In your 13 years of ownership, what were the types of maintenance you had to do and was it expensive? Thanks. Trying to get an idea of home ownership costs

Depends on what type of property and whether or not you care about it.

Could be simple to needing major repaint/renovation all the time.

The only thing more sad than such greedy landlords are naive renters that keep enabling this insanity. No one i know pays more than 8k for that kind of space, and they all have a private bathroom.

Speculation is a dangerous game. Not good. Its cool if people have the mkney and want to spend it that way. But realistically, taipei has no value to price ratio. It seems more about being in the big city. The average worker can make (keep) far more money monthly while living a far nicer life being outside of taipei. It seems to make more sense for professionals that need to be in taipei for work, otherwise…why?

Seems simple enough - many people prefer being in a vibrant city, close to the various things that cities have to offer. This isn’t exactly unique to Taiwan.

Taipei is about the last thing I’d consider a vibrant city. Boring and culturally lacking.

Yes because there are so many contenders in Taiwan for that title.

No argument here. The country is the best thing about Taiwan. The cities suck.

Wow, I couldn’t disagree more. I have travelled to countless cities across the globe, and Taipei ranks very highly for me. I guess it depends on what you want from a city.
