The Day The Music Died (Taiwan Version)

I received this today from a Taiwanese friend, seems it is getting fwdwd around, even English. Maybe someone can translate into Chinese!

Two titles posted were:

Bye-bye, Miss Betelnut Pie

or

The Day the Music Died - (March 20, 2004)

A long long time ago
I can still remember
How that taxi music used to make me smile
And I knew if I had my chance
That I could make island people dance
And maybe they’d be happy for a while

But on March 20th I really shivered
with every email that was delivered
Bad news in the mailbox
The protesters were using gangster rocks
I can’t remember if I cried
When I read about the ku-rou-ji side
But something touched me deep inside
The day the music died
So…

CHORUS:

Bye-bye, Miss Betelnut Pie,
Drove my Taurus to the florist but the florist was shy

Them old Soong boys were drinking whiskey and beer
Singing this’ll be the day that we tear
This’ll be the day that we tear…
…the island apart!

Awful. Painfully contrived, non-scanning (except for most of it which hasn’t even been changed), that is truly a piece of crap. Don’t give up the dayjob.

Oh yeh, I forgot to note that the version going around (ABOVE) is quite awful.

Many, many better song parodies can be found at www.amiright.com.
The American Pie rip-off is horrible.

The reason this rather pedestrian little ditty above resonated, of course an amateur job and not very sophisticated, is that I also kind of feel that since Election Day, the ‘‘music’’ has died in Taiwan. I mean, the old daily optimism and cheerfulness and wackiness of life here DIED that day, it seems, replaced by daily political bickering. So i think this kind of song title has meaning here and now. Anyone also feel “something” died on that day? Maybe that’s why many others are posting negative things around the board, suicidal thoughts and fear of the future thoughts…

I for one am very optimistic. The good guys have won, the economy is booming, and the stock market is going up (well, maybe not today). Don’t listen to gloomy mainlanders so much.

Come on Sandman Let’s hear it!

A long, long, time ago,
I can still remember,
How Lee Tung Hui made me cry,
And I only knew If I had my chance,
To dance in public in my underpants,
That maybe I’d be happy for a while.

But the March Election made them shiver,
With every rumor I delivered,
My wife copped one in the chops,
When Chen got up at the ballot box.
I can’t remember if she sighed,
When I shoved my boot up her backside,
But a bullet grazed Chen’s insides,
The day that old bitch cried.

And they were singing,
Bye, Bye, shove a stick in your eye,
Drove your caddy to the ballot, but the ballot kicked back,
Them Binlung boys were screwin whores on their backs,
Singin this’ll be the day that you die.

Here’s another blast from the past.

To say I’d never stoop to dastardly politiking simply isn’t true, but to think we might have those crawlers back.
