At the state level—where nine in ten prisoners are incarcerated—almost 60 percent of inmates committed violent crimes. Roughly 143,000 people are imprisoned for convictions related to sexual assault and 155,000 for homicide, compared with 146,000 for all drug crimes combined. The idea that America’s “mass” incarceration is a result of drug crimes is absurd.
In an era of rising violent crime and increased attention to public safety, the reform movement will not survive unless it admits that the reality of the criminal-justice system is far more complex than the activists’ refrains suggest. Most importantly, reformers’ priorities need to account for violent crime and create workable solutions for making prisons better, rather than continuing to indulge the dangerous fantasy of abolition.
We’ve lost a few kids around here to gun violence and stabbing post the 2020 BLM riots and the calls for defunding . High school kids a few years ago. Progressive reforms are not working or not working nearly fast enough. I bet on the former.

No. They at least care enough to acknowledge it, admit it was inappropriate, and take down the post. No administration is ever going to be vaguely close to pristine in behavior, but how an administration responds to inappropriate actions by its staff matters. How are you seeing this as irony?

My firm served a lawsuit against Paul Pelosi one time in SF after attempting to serve at other residences—Napa, Georgetown. They weren’t home, but staff were, & multiple law enforcement officers were on the perimeter. Break-in is odd given this level of security.
