We know that Trump’s trade war, which explains pretty much all of the above, was ruled illegal by his Supreme Court.
Yes the mechanism initially used must be removed which it seems like it has.
Personally I suspect the US will just deal with Mexico.
And Canada started this trade war with tariffs on dairy, the digital service act and others…not to mention the unwillingness to pay its share for NATO.
I guess it can’t afford to….
In the meantime the US is using its financial leverage to incentivize Canadian companies to continue moving south of the border.

You’re going off topic hard core. Let’s get back to topic first 
what is happening to Canada, although I’m posting out it, is pure geopolitics. Its geography, demographics, economics and politics that are not on Canadas side.
Geography: Canada is stuck to America. It trades WITH and depends ON America (a new pipeline just got build going north south)
Demographics: no kids and no setup to have kids. Immigration (ie replacement) can only work for so long…and it’s no longer working.
Economics: Canada is a resource exporter. That’s it. Canada exports its raw goods TO America to have it refined and then sent back.
Politics: carney is ruining Canada. USMCA hasn’t even been renegotiated
Cubans fled to America when things got bad and they have prospered. Those who stayed now can’t even turn on the light.
Canada will be worse because unlike Cuba that had support from the USSR…China will not fund Canada…sorry

A union is the only natural next step
There are much more than a few; it is a large majority. Most Canadians would rather watch Canada implode than be under another country’s rule. No one cares about the politics of it, it is just patriotism - something Americans should be very familiar with.
This is ironic given that Canada has for most of its history been under another country’s rule lol.

But tell you what - you’re the PM - how would Canada maintain its “independence?”
Again, if that is a threat, it would likely end up with armed insurrection that would last a long, long time (not to mention a World War). And how useful is smoking rubble filled with insurrectionists? And is that the world you want to live in? Gunboat “diplomacy” that largely relies on threats? What if “your” country was on the other side of the table?
I recommend looking at how the US took Hawaii. It wasn’t the bayonet constitution that started the takeover…it was the economic reliance and cultural assimilation that did.
Hawaii relied on sandalwood trade with America and then sugar trade . MeanwhIke American culture was finding its way into Hawaiian way of life.

This whole framing—not yours, @Noel , but the apparently youtube fueled fantasizing that seems to be the basis of this thread—is extremely dubious: either have a shite economy / country OR be taken over by you know who.
Maybe, just maybe, there are other paths to take. They are not easy paths, and there are glaring obstacles in the way (example: the fact that municipalities, where the majority of Canadians live and work, have no clear legal status in Canada and exist at the pleasure of the provinces . . . this arrangement is not fit for purpose and has not been fit for purpose for most of my lifetime!).
We won’t hear about things like that, however, in this thread, where feverish fantasies of 19th century style imperial annexations return again and again in a tedious bot-like loop.
