The Employment Gold Card Super-Thread

Yeah I’m afraid that won’t be enough. If you were able to hit 18 months total by the expiry of your gold card then you’d have a chance.

I think you’ll need to set up a company or a rep office. It’s doable so don’t give up.

Looking into it now, thanks! Not sure about the capital requirements to do this though.

Does this help with renewing the GC or getting an ARC?

Getting an ARC to stay in country

Hey guys, I’m 32, I have no degree but working on getting a degree in Finance. When that time comes, I heard about the Gold card, but I believe I have to work in the US in the banking/finance degree or whatever it is correlate to my degree field for like x amount of years first before I move right and who knows if I will get approved or not. I also want to learn Taiwanese Mandarin as well. Honestly, the reason why I want to move is because of safety reasons especially with the crime and the injustice system… I feel like the money is good, but also been living here all my life I would want to go to another country and eventually retire. Live half life in the US and then the rest in another country if that makes sense. How should I go about setting up my future? Thanks!

Welcome.
Does this mean we get to plan your whole future like a reality show? Jk.

There are finance jobs, but more likely to get hired when living in Taipei instead of getting sent here by your firm from NYC.

Best to come and learn Chinese full-time.

If you ever get to the stage of marrying a local, then ARC gives you open work rights.

Whereabouts in US is it getting a tad dangerous for you?

Get your degree. Come here and look for a job. Have enough savings so that you can start studing Mandarin at one of the 60-odd university affiliated Mandarin Training Centers. If you can’t find a job, get an MA in finance at a Taiwanes university and teach English on the side to support yourself.

The TKU-QUT Dual Master’s Degree Program in Finance might be a good choice. The financial industry in Taiwan including foreign financial institutions loves grads from their regular program taught in Chinese. Your math better be good, This is serious quant training.

Thank you! Hahah, I like reality shows and drama shows but not in real life lol.

Oh, I thought it would be more beneficial for your company to transfer you there.

Well, I live in the Bay area, California; Northern. Dang I would like to ARC but I’m picky when it comes to women lol and I want more of a American wife aha.

I’d rather be a working class and knowing that my life is priority than to be rich and knowing that you’re in a high crime rate environment. As they say, safety is #1

Thank you so much! I’m also planning to get my masters too!

It depends as the finance field has various categories to qualify, one being a salary of at least NT$160,000 per month regardless of the number of years experience.
Typically even for a normal work visa you need a degree and 1 year work experience (unless your degree is from one of the top 500 universities), it would help to get that in the US first if possible then make the move, rather with a company transfer of applying for jobs here with experience built up.

It’s always better to find a job in the US and then get transferred here. Pay will be much, much better. Very few companies are willing to do this. So you end up having to come to Taiwan to find a job because Taiwanese employers are rarely willing to consider anyone not physically in Taiwan unless you have some special skill they really want.

Question about writing an invoice from me (gold card, “self employeed”) to a taiwanese

  • company
  • individual

What tax rate do I have to on the invoices (is it 5 %?) and is it even possible to write an invoice from me to an individual taiwanese (for some IT/webdesign stuff)?

Thanks!
