The greatest competition of all time is about to start in less than 60 days.
I am sure all the soccer fans are planning to arrange their schedule so as to watch as many game as it is possibly human to do, we have great many teams, a lot of challengers and probably some good surprises in store.
What is your dream final? England Vs Brazil? Can germany make it to the final having recently taking a beating from Italy? Can Zizou, Henry and Trezeguet create some magic for France? How about Japan, South Corea and the likes?
It sure gonna be an interesting World Cup edition. :bravo: :bravo:
Surely the dream final is Germany V England, with a repeat of the '66 finish?
Yep, that would be a dream for both Germany and England.
Germany having now, one of the best GK in the world it could happen.
Who are you talking about? Lehmann? Klinsmann seems to let him play as Kahn is not what he was anymore.
Germany wouldn’t be in a dream final. I would like to see something like England against Argentina, 3:3 after overtime and an English victory after penalty kicking. ![]()

Yes, Lehmann, the Arsenal GK.
England Vs Argentina sounds good, but not with a penalty kickout, that would be a sad conclusion to the WC. 2-2 after prolongation and a last minute goal from England would be great.
lehmann has been chosen the starter, although i really don’t htink it’s going to matter - germany has not been scoring many goals recently (other than one recent game).
i think it’s the year of the dutch - they’ve come close before, and finally have a manager who is not afraid to leave people who don’t understand the concept of “team” at home. he’ll pick whoever is playing well, never mind if they are a household name - this sometimes helps, as other teams haven’t heavily scouted the players previously.
i think they have a good shot, as do many of the regular big guns. don’t really see too much hope for asian teams this time around …
Yes, England vs Argentina… but England winners by way of controversial “hand-of-Beckham” goal in 89th minute… ![]()
That’s exactly why it should be a penalty kickout, to get recovered from 2 hurting losses. ![]()
Lehmann plays well know, and with the run which Arsenal has he got a lot of confidence for sure too. But it is a home world cup for Germany and there are a lot of Kahn fans who “hate” him, so he will face a lot of pressure too. Hope he can handle that as I like him better than Kahn.
Usually the Germans should be happy to make it to the 2nd round, but as Gerry Lineker already said: “Football is a game where 22 people run after a ball and where the Germans win on the end.” (no matter how bad they play…
and sorry, can’t remember the exact term…but you get what I mean… )
Gerry Lineker being Gary’s brother? Cousin? No relation?
Okok, for making it complete:
His name correctly spelled: Gary Lineker
The sentence was: "“Football is a simple game; 22 men chase a ball for 90 minutes and at the end, the Germans win.”

Oh, but can we agree on the titel for England or do I have to change that too? ![]()
Yes Yes Yes, definitely England to beat Brazil in the quarters, Argentina in the Semis, and Germany in the final.
Someone will point out now that this isn;t possible because of the groups, but I am allowed to dream.

So honestly, I don’t need the Germans even in round 2.

I can’t see germany in final, I don’t know why, something with their team, they look imature in the last 3 friendlies.
Brazil is always a possibility, Argentina too and England as well although they haven’t done much in the last few WCs.
But we should keep a good eye in those that don’t seem a threat but could become one rapidely ie: Tchech Republic, South Korea and the like.
My favorites this year include: Czech, Ukraine, USA, Argentina, Poland, Nederland, Iran, and Oz. Not my favorites to win, just my favorites.
Of course, the Dream Final would be USA vs Iran.
I’m already preparing for the anticpated sleep deprivation. What will coverage be like this year? For us working stiffs?
It seems like Sat TV has it pretty much covered, hence my dillema, should I get it? If only for the WC, is it worth it? Well, that’s another question.
So pretty much places like Tavern and the like should show games daily, maybe live, but definitly reruns the next day.
I wonder if Taiwan’s Cable will show it, it could be a cheaper way to go for me anyways.
USA Vs Iran now that would be interesting!!!
i’d like to know this , as well. If I recall, the 98 coverage was great but 2002, somewhat lacking? I assumed that the last coverage was so poor was due to the proximity of the games to Taiwan.
Here’s hoping we get some views on local cable. ![]()
Well, maybe, but not from the football side. ![]()

You must be an englander fan?Yes?
I wouldn’t worry about it too much, then.
Nudge, nudge… ![]()
You’ve got more to worry about Sweden & Paraguay’s initial performance than anything else. ![]()
If you ever saw Iran an USA play football you know it has not much to do with a world cup final.
(as well as the perfomance of my "home team)
I like England, yes, but I am no fan of them. There is just one team which I am fan of, a club team. I support (even it is hard) my national team and I have some national teams were I feel sympaties with or which I would be happy that the take the pot.
this is my first world cup in taipei, so not quite sure how the coverage is. last world cup was actually in germany, so the atmosphere was fantastic. i have been thru a few world cups in asia, so i know how it’s like staying awake until the wee hours to watch a game live and subsequently appearing at work zombie-like the next day. the joys of watching world cup… brings back good memories.
the key question would be, what are the best places that will show the games LIVE here in taipei? please enlighten… thanks
