Beat ya to it.
I love this magazine, filled with great pics.
I personally know Felix Dennis, the owner and creator of Maxim and Dennis publishing.
He has a Van Gough in his study and a portrait of Bob Dylan, drawn by Bob Dylan, in his entertainment complex.
A very rich man indeed.
There. My claim to fame over. Do carry on.
New York Times
Men’s Health
The WSJ
The Atlantic Monthly
The Economist
Special mention: FHM Philippines (makes me happy to be a Pinoy)

I read it for the articles.
How about this: www.aldaily.com
The Economist
Vogue
Foreign Policy
National Geographic
The Atlantic (I think that’s what it’s called)
I would say:
The Economist
The New York Times
The Guardian
The Globe and Mail
The Atlantic
I am surprised no one has mentioned The Utne Reader.
I would follow that up with:
Penthouse
Playboy
Hustler
Swank

For the pictures.
I always liked Astronomy Magazine. It rightly claims to be the worlds most beautiful astronomy magazine. I just wish they would have more science and less photography and telescope stuff.
In no order:
Economist
WSJ
National Review
The Scotsman.com
IHT
A very handy Foreign Newspaper Website listing
Re:Brit papers - a handy guide:
Telegraph: right
Times: middle
Guardian: hard left
Mirror: kooky left
Independent: Fisk left
Sun: right + half nekkid chicks
Spectator: Mag that prints both left & right leaning writers
And many many others as specific areas of research require.
Magazines…

Clash http://www.clashmagazine.com

I can’t think of a 5th.

If you’re going to “rate” the British papers, why not do the same for your top five?
I’ll start with the first three:
Economist: sensible right
WSJ: hard right
National Review: kooky right
Don’t know about the last two, though. Anyone?
I wouldn’t classify the Economist as right or left. It advocates centrist positions and can be on the left- or right-slanted depending on the specific country and issue.
PP,
How would you classify Canada’s newspapers. You love to criticize other country’s leaders and systems, but you are remarkably quite in light of the current mess in Ottawa. Any comments?
Here is my take on Canada’s newspapers
Globe and Mail – Center-left… mouthpiece of Canada’s eastern establishment
The Star – Idiot left
Sun – Refreshing right considering the leftist slant of the CBC, the Globe, and other statist newspapers
National Post – Center-right
Any paper by Izzy Asper – Liberal aparatchik

The edsitorial page of the WSJ may lean to the conservative side, it is, after all, first and foremost a business paper. But the other pages do tend to run articles by those of the other pursuasion.
National Review does seem to knot the knickers of a great number of the leftoid fringe. Hard to rebut well-reasoned and solidly researched information.
Of the last 2, #4 would be the Scotsman Online Newspaper. I find myself more and more enjoying the balance of articles presented there.
IHT would, of course, be the online International Herald Tribune. Consistently interesting.
Its been around for a few years. Available in most countries. Probably even in some of the larger Canadian cities. Although it is printed in english.
More like predictable, monotonous cheerleading catering to the “intellectual” sector of the religous right, actually. But this is fodder for the political forum.
Economist
Guardian
Private Eye
Apple Daily
The Sun
There would be a number of National Review pieces where I would agree with you, porcelainprincess. But check out what Ramesh Ponnuru writes. You may not agree with him (in fact I’d be very surprised if you did, on some issues). But judging from your posts, I suspect that you would appreciate the intelligence and principle that are present in many of his pieces. To give you a basic picture: He is a conservative Republican, with sincere religious beliefs, who has leveled some fairly stinging attacks on George W. Bush over the last couple years, particularly in the domestic area. And – to quote Morgan from GWH: “My boy’s wicked smart.” ![]()
