Since the other thread is about 15 pages (seems like they usually get locked by then anyway) and the title is a little miss leading (as Sinister T pointed out) I figured I’d start a new, fresh one .
I don’t think we’re looking for a new (main) venue for Games Club anymore (correct me if I’m wrong), but we are still investigating alternate locations.
We currently meet every Sunday at around 3:00pm at the Chit Chat Cafe. It’s located in the heart of the Shilin night market at 102 Wenlin Street, a few blocks north of the Jiantan MRT station.
I thought of something that would help us keep “The Game Club” (I always feel strange typing or saying that) better organized. I’m going to start a mailing list that people could subscribe to. Then we could send an email every week with a time and date of where we’ll be. That way we could easily switch locations and keep everybody informed. It would also help setup addition times (like on Saturday or the middle of the week).
I asked Tech Admin if he/she could set one up on the forumosa.com domain, if not, I’ll get it setup somewhere else.
I feel like a more evil version of Mister T with an extra syllable. I could be his nemesis. Join the ‘Z Team’, dress in women’s clothing and be the total opposite of Mister T… But I can still say:
I don’t really see the point of a mailing list. If there’s any need to change details (and I think if this is done, it should be done the week before at GC), then just post the details here. That way newbies who are thinking of coming will also be informed.

True, but this is what I was thinking. We have our main location (Chit Chat or wherever). Then we could have some kind of system for hosting it at other locations around Taipei and Taipei county. Whenever we setup a different place (be it a Sunday or not) we would send out an email letting everyone know. That way people (casual clubbers) wouldn’t need to check the thread every week to see if it will be close to their house and it would also reduce possible future confusion (if Chit Chat closed or something).
There are also other things we could do with a mailing list. Plus, it’s not like it costs anything. I can only see it helping (people who want to sign up do and people who don’t don’t). Someone just needs to “run” it.
We would post the same information in a thread somewhere as well.
Be careful when you say something like that about Games Club unless you are already suggesting yourself.
Trust me on this.
I think we should start a Clue club or something. I’d practice on my 5th graders, but they are hardly worthy adversaries and I’d feel guilty beating them because I know I would be trying to. Whoda thunk it was that addicting?
Click the fancy looking link to join the Game Club yahoo group. To do this you will need to sign up with yahoo if you don’t have a yahoo account yet. Doing this will give you access to all of the group’s web features (Photos, Files, Links, Polls, Calendar, etc.)
They keep on telling me my new password doesn’t 符合規定 or whatever.
Actually, I just like keeping it all on Forumosa…
Yeah, I’m already ditching the yahoo thing . Goose Egg said he’d hook up a forumosa email address I can use for the mailing list. I’ll probably just do that.
Edit: Oh yeah. I don’t mean for a mailing list to replace forumosa for distributing information. I thought haveing one would complement what we do on the wbsite nicely.
I recently did research about ‘gaming in Taiwan’ here is what I can provide you with. All here as I remember it, details may differ.
I found three places in Taipei where you can play games. I got most of my info via Swanpanasia Co. Ltd., and anyone looking for games in Taipei should maybe give them a try. Check out their ‘partners’ section for details about the three places below.
Witch House
…the Cultural Cafe with the naughtiest menu in town!
Visit us at:
No. 7, Lane 56, Hsin-Sheng South Road, Sec.3
Taipei, Taiwan
(Near Taiwan University)

The Witch House promotes German Board games now already for something like two years in cooperation with a games distributor Swan Panasia Co. Ltd… The Witch House is located pretty near to the Gung Guan MRT station and Taida University.
They have a growing collection of titles there for guests to play. No core games (tabletops or TCGs for instance) but a wide range otherwise. No fee to use the games, but you have to order a minimum of drink, food, whatever (forgot how much). Be a bit careful though, games which are still in the wrapper are for sale, NOT for playing.
From Thursday to Saturday they have live acts so from 21:00 onwards, no gaming allowed. But Sunday is
Thanks for the info there. Might check some of that out, but you’ve missed one point - we’re not hardcore Gamers so much as a bunch of friends hanging out and playing games just to have some fun. That said, your suggestions sound interesting…
The Witch House looks like a restaurant and unless they have an advertising board outside, it won’t attract the average passerby as a gaming place also.
I’ll probably be back to Games Club this Sunday, provided I don’t lock myself out of my old apartment and leave my games in my other apartment across town.
No probelm Tetsuo, Witch House is also not hard-core. The level is about Carcassonne, Settlers etc…

Sphere Cafe is the same level (being backed in their selection by Swan Panasia). Sorry for not mentioning that.
Alchemy now, THAT is more hard-core (Warhammer, RPGs, Magic), but still … they also got some simple Steve Jackson Games I think.
Alchemy
The shop is run by Lanti and is more core-oriented. I.e. you could find Warhammer, RPGs, TCRs and anything else you like there.
But as said: if all fails and opposition at even the Witch House or Sphere Cafe prove to be too tough … there is always Y17. Beware of Nicklas, The Boy from Hell.
So how comes you missed the games, last time they had three bookshelves full of them?
Simple German Style Games as they are called. Family games, rules of maybe one, two or three pages and a playing time of an hour at most. ‘Carcassone’ and ‘Settlers of Cathan’ are the two most well known titles therein. Settlers by now has a Chinese version (published by Capcom I think based in Japan).
As in contrast to “hardcore-games” like Warhammer or Roleplaying games with rules of 100+ pages and a playing time of several hours. For this one got to go to Alchemy.
Or as in contrast to Magic, playing time of 15 minutes, but addiciton till you are bancrupt. For this one I think the Taiwanese tournaments are held near Gong guan too (pm me if you need the address, don’t have it here right now).
