Britons are up in arms over the government’s Orwellian BritCard digital ID scheme, with over 2.8M people signing a petition to prevent its implementation.
But while the scheme and its comical pretext (“tackling illegal immigration” – the same problem successive British governments themselves created), is frightening, it definitely isn’t the first. In recent months, mandatory or voluntary digital ID schemes have been introduced in:

The UN and the Bill Gates Foundation are now accelerating plans for a global digital ID system to include 50 nations by 2028. The “50 on 5” campaign launched at the end of 2023, has already been signed by at least 30 countries. In addition, all EU member states will introduce the EUDI digital wallet for identification EUDI by next year.
