The hunt for Asia’s El Chapo

Great read about APAC’s biggest drug lord. Taiwan gets a few mentions as well.

He is Asia’s most-wanted man. He is protected by a guard of Thai kickboxers. He flies by private jet. And, police say, he once lost $66 million in a single night at a Macau casino.

Edit: Warning, very long

“Over the years, police have had little success in taking down Asia’s drug lords.”

Shocking stuff eh? Interesting piece, but seems a bit clueless.

After many years of seeing how the war on drugs works world wide. It seems there is only one solution, decriminalization.

You take this guy out, these groups will fracture and violence will follow with different people trying to seize control during the chaos. One guy like this consolidating control keeps order and money flowing smoothly. It’s why the violence got worse with the cartels.

Yeah I’m sure he’s just waiting around for phone calls from the Western press. No way he’s like “the guy” to the degree they’re saying anyway.
