The impact of pirated software on free software

The title touches on only one aspect of this rather long piece.

I’ve given thought to going over to a Linnux OS. I have not simply because I’ve never come up with a good enough reason to justify the change to myself. I’ve been running XP Pro for years now and have never seen a BSD and it does everything I need to do.
I came across this article today and thought it might be of interest to some Forumosans.
Pretty good info and opinions on pirated software, cracks and some other things that 'normal users/ deal with.

The impact of pirated software on free software

Smart article, TC.

I was discussing with another Forumosan the other day the proposition that Microsoft tacitly encourages piracy of Windows in developing markets to establish market dominance, before cracking down (with the help of local authorities) to persuade at least business users to purchase a legitimate copy once the market is more mature. Ethically a little dicey, but from a business point of view, it makes perfect sense.

Very interesting article. Nice find TC.
