Maybe some, but the anger in Italy is not of rights, as much as it is the constant bungling of this virus, leading to the second wave and lockdown.

You sure? People are pretty upset about the lockdown again. Especially since the gov is not providing much if any support. Some of the support that was supposed to come from the last lockdown have not even been received yet.
The gov in Italy takes takes and takes while giving the people nothing back.
It’s almost like deliberately distorting the truth makes for an unassailable position…amazing!
Of course they’re upset about having to lock down again. Nobody likes lockdowns. But it’s more of a… why can’t the Lega hurry up and fix the issue anger than american style individualism.

Well, people in italy seem to start to want a smaller gov with their recent vote to reduce parliament.
You know that’s not what Americans mean when they say ‘Limited Government’. It only changes the size of parliament.
At most it might make the lawmaking process a bit leaner and save a few million in salaries. Hardly a dent.
When they grasp that the government has no intention of ever “fixing” the issue, then they will be enlightened.
When they grasp that government can’t fix everything even if it wants to, then they will ascend.
Faith in big government gave their ancestors Mussolini.

The sentiment against so much gov control is growing. Is it like the US, nope. But more and more Italians are getting fed up. Even new changes to self defense using a gun is welcomed recently because no one believes the police is going to help them in time.
That’s not true and it’s offensive.

The fact that you imply we brought this upon ourselves through blind faith in the government is sickening.
Despite our problems, we still remain an extremely high standard of living with higher longevity. Our MPs suck, but no way in hell is my country going to be talked down to that way.
Certainly can’t disagree with that. It’s been a rough road and the incompetence of the buffoons being self serving has certainly not helped the country’s cause.
If the people of Italy don’t throw the bums out and start living proper lives, they will most certainly be talked down to, in all sorts of ways, by a great many people.
I’ve got Sicilian relatives. I know how bluster works. I don’t intimidate easily.
I’m sure the people of Italy appreciate you telling them what’s best for them.

Low stress and social interaction. Americans work themselves to death and the elderly are lonely. Not in Italy.
But unfortunately, it’s hard to compete this way.

Please, guys. Italian politics and society are much more complex than fed up = reduce parliament or no police = buy a gun. For example, the latter was part of a proposed reform of the juridical boundaries of “self defence” and not by any chance a lack of trust in the police or the request for an easier access to weapons. If non-Italians are interested in what is happening in our country, please do read more (even Italian newspapers with Google Translate rather than international news) and try to understand the whole picture which is never as simple as it seems. The people who are demonstrating on the streets these days, agree with it or not, are not covidiots or negationists, but citizens who are fed up with their government for a list of reasons that me and @Marco would need a week to pen down.
