The Jing Affair – Taiwan Cold War thriller rereleased today

The Jing Affair is a pacy 1965 thriller that sees Nationalist General Jing betray Taiwan and engineer a communist takeover. Featuring spectacular action sequences, double agents, sympathy for the Taiwanese people, and an Asian-American hero in the starring role, the novel was ahead of its time in a number of ways.

The book was written under a pseudonym by US intelligence officer Jim Flood, who was stationed in Taiwan for a time and became the inspiration for the title character in Graham Greene’s The Quiet American.

The Jing Affair is rereleased today in e-book format, with the paperback to follow in two weeks.

Wasn’t Flood also CIA?

Strongly suspected, but never confirmed to my knowledge.

A 1970s era book outing a number of CIA officers had his name in it.
