The Jing Affair is a pacy 1965 thriller that sees Nationalist General Jing betray Taiwan and engineer a communist takeover. Featuring spectacular action sequences, double agents, sympathy for the Taiwanese people, and an Asian-American hero in the starring role, the novel was ahead of its time in a number of ways.
The book was written under a pseudonym by US intelligence officer Jim Flood, who was stationed in Taiwan for a time and became the inspiration for the title character in Graham Greene’s The Quiet American.
The Jing Affair is rereleased today in e-book format, with the paperback to follow in two weeks.
