The Junior Varsity team thread

It’s not just Iraq and Syria anymore…

Quagmires have a way of making everyone trapped in them come off looking third string at best.

ISIS only looks like JV to the delusional.

I see ISIS as part of the quagmire, not the varsity delusion. Think of it like something that emerged from a Pandora’s Box.

Well, everything emerged from the Big Bang. But that’s water under the bridge.

For want of a better term what delusion do you subscribe to that will extricate the U.S. from the quagmire in the Middle East any time in the next five hundred years?

There are a number of options that have succeeded in the past with comparable situations. However, they are all unthinkable given the current state of world public opinion.

That’s the real quagmire.

Public opinion is malleable, but it takes time. I see signs that it might be shifting in the needed direction. Until that happens, I’d best not be more specific; it will only ignite a pointless flamewar. When the civilized world reaches the point where it can accept the solution, they won’t need it spelled out for them anyway.

Good decision. Genocide doesn’t go over well in polite society these days. Give it time.

Let the record show that it was you brought up the topic.

And if you think that’s what I was referring to, the fault is with the limitations of your imagination.

I imagine it being called something like “enhanced collateral damage” when its time comes if that’s any help.

OMG!! Muslim extremists have started appearing in Afghanistan! Stop the Presses!!

The sort of thing “losers” do when a real loser lets them win:

Interesting wording there. Minority lives matter… a bit more?

Probably means minorities more likely to be targeted

Can someone, not rowland, anyone but rowland, explain the title of this thread? It neither works as click bait, nor as a description of what one will find inside. That said, the content of most posts are pure rowland-gnomic so maybe it is best.

I assume the title suggests that the centrist currently in the White House, and his team, are junior varsity in level - i.e. not very good, a B-team at best. The pattern of posts then becomes “Brief gnomic utterance that is somehow supposed to convince us of presidential perfidy/lack of skill + linked block quote + (optional) further brief ‘QED’ gnomic pronouncement.” Rebuttals and responses are greeted with variations of “I’m perfectly clear and you’re not smart enough to get it.”

I think it’s actually kind of neat that the writing mirrors French deconstructionists.

The JV team is ISIS, that was the term Obama used to describe ISIS/ISIL before they took over northern Iraq and is now used by the right to mock Obamas description of them.

Ah, oops! Thanks - I’d forgotten about that.

OK, got it wrong. Apologies.

 No worries, pretty sure Rowland would say it works both ways.

ISIS is the new world order. GWB was right after all.

(Would you rather gnomic utterances, or gnosic profundities?)
