The Merit of Skerrit? Discussion of the Daniel Pearl Day of Music

Just in case you didn’t catch it up there, the king of daggering, Skerrit Bwoy, will be in for an appearance before being hurried off to Khh for a show at Brickyard. If you don’t know, this is what happened last time he was here. The infamous triple dagga!!!

So the guy shows off an unfortunate hairdo, poorly-fitting jeans and even more unfortunate underpants and simulates 2-second sexual intercourse with a bunch of plump ladies. I’m SO there!
Seriously, why THIS guy? One of the major, major draws of DP day has always been the “family-friendly” atmosphere. I would not feel comfortable AT ALL to invite parents to bring their children to see that kind of stuff. I will be bringing this point up with the sponsors of the event, too. There’s a time and a place. DP has been running for several years now and like it or not, it HAS developed the “family friendly” badge of honour. Or maybe I’m just out of touch, and other parents are happy to allow their kids to see this kind of stuff these days. Not me though. Its fucking GROSS to have this kind of crap at an event that is advertised prominently as family friendly.

Sandman says, “So the guy shows off an unfortunate hairdo, poorly-fitting jeans and even more unfortunate underpants and simulates 2-second sexual intercourse with a bunch of plump ladies. I’m SO there!”

Tee hee hee.

Sandman’s jealous.

Only partially. I FAR surpass him in the underpants arena. My question stands, though. DP Day, at least here in Taiwan, has always been a family-friendly affair. This act, to me, is not. I’m flying out on the day, so for me its moot, although the Ramblers will be playing without me. If I WAS here on the day, though, this would put me off showing up to be a part of it, I think. Call me “too old” if you like, but I have a 3-year-old who I DON’T want seeing that kind of shite. There’ll be time enough when he’s older.
The flyer should have a warning that certain parts of this event are unsuitable for children.

Bone man you gots to get him off the bill. Save him for the after party or something cos I can seriously see him going down like a lead zeppelin if he tries that shit on. Daniel Pearl Day has always been a family affair, not an event for the practicing of group sex acts live on stage no matter how gymnastic.

I agree with the others - he might be good in a club but Daniel Pearl Day is not the right environment.

Well, looking at the flyer, there’s no actual mention that it is a family-friendly event, so I guess all bets are off. I was always under the assumption that it was, though. My bad. The idea of appearing on the same bill as that guy, though, would leave a pretty bad taste in my mouth. I’m VERY glad I won’t be there this year.

I’d go for some Maori heckling. If he gets out of line, drag the fucker off and slap a bit of sense into him! The stage is not sacred ground. Anyone can come up and administer some commonsense.

I think you guys are looking at this all wrong. His entertainment is more cartoonish and PG-13 than anything. The guy is actually one of the nicest, friendliest, and down to earth entertainers that I’ve ever met. It’ll be fun and entertaining for sure

I’ve heard that Ron Jeremy is like that, too. I still don’t want my toddler looking at him doing his thing. Plus, DP traditionally attracts parents with kids WAY under 13. Its a family day out with music, burgers and grass to run about on away from the traffic.
I’d posit that its YOU guys who are “looking at this all wrong.” On the stage at a Havana pool party? Sure! Why not. It fits with the vibe. DP day? Nope. Its very much NOT in tune with the vibe. Maybe not as bad as putting Skrewdriver on the bill of a Rock Against Racism gig, but its not a whole world apart, IMO.

Even leaving aside the antics / performance aspects, DP Day is traditionally blues / roots/ reggae / country type music. I don’t see that it fits musically.

Good point, CFI.

As there are two different stages, and David Chen and the Muddy Basin Ramblers are at the Roots stage from 7-8, while Skerrit Bwoy is on the other stage from 7:30 -8, I think those with kids along just need to make the easy choice and hang at the “Roots” stage and watch the MBRs.

Nothing could be more child friendly than what is going on at the Roots stage, but I hope there is enough distance between the two, so we don’t have to listen to techno, hip hop, and rap drowning out the kind of music that Daniel Pearl was known for.

He will be playing a set with reggae, dancehall, and other Caribbean music mixed in. Along with some dancing!

Obviously I don’t speak for the whole band, but assuming it’s essentially the same kind of show as in the video clip (and why would you have posted it if it weren’t representative?), I would have hesitated on doing Daniel Pearl this year if I’d known this show was going to be part of it. It’s the kind of thing that moves DP Day away from its original purpose, IMHO.

Maybe just let Mr Bwoy know the nature of the event he’s playing. It’s unlikely anyway that he will find a single willing girl, let alone the 3 girls he needs for his "triple dagger’ manoeuvrings.

Oh. It has to be girls, does it? Not only crude but gender-discriminatory, too!

Well, after being roundly bitch-slapped, I’ve come to realize that I really need to stop channeling my dear old grandmother at times.

And don’t forget to wrap up warm!

:unamused: So you expect our kids and moms to be thrilled by this bullshit?

Edit: pic removed, maybe NSFW

Daniel Pearl Day of Music has always been a family friendly day of bluesgrass, blues, country, and other enjoyable alternative forms of music that a family can bring their kids to , to enjoy, not some venue for puerile sleazebags to push pornographic images onstage.

If this is the crap that’s going to be on display, I’m afraid we may have to give the event a miss this year. Damn shame – we were looking forward to laid back music and seeing friends, not puerile sleaze-gaga on-stage antics by some 2-digit IQ moron with no sense of taste whatsoever. Bull, this is VERY disappointing. :frowning:

We’ll have to see how it all plays out, but I have an idea that Skerrit Bwoy will have toned things down considerably for an act that is open to the public. I don’t think I’m being naive here. Let’s bet on it.
