Damn. Kris was one of the greats. Chewy beat me to my favorite of his.

“You’re doing to country music what pantyhose did to fingerf*****”

This is hilarious if true.

Interesting that his first political song was the pro-Vietnam War Vietnam Blues. He had just served a stint in the Army (pre-Vietnam) as a helicopter pilot.

He’s outta there.

I was young but I did get the chance to see Pete play on TV a few times. :tv:

What a ball player. :salute:

Also a few controversies around that man.

Addicted to gambling?

Guy

Sigh— yes. Not OJ, but not perfect either.

You what also? He was a spectacular ball player with a good sense of humor about his failings. Did some cameos in a few Wrestle Manias as well.

I saw him a few times when the Mets played the Phillies. Great player.

He should’ve been in the hall of fame decades ago

In an All-Star game, he basically ended the career of Ray Fosse, however, RF later became a great A’s announcer during 80s and 90s during the Bash Brother years

Nah-- you can’t do what he did and get away with it. Too bad the same won’t be said for steroid use. I don’t recall Pete bitching about it too much.

That said, his stats are still there, next to his name.

Rose was kind of a then-modern version of Ty Cobb. Slap hits on pitches away, poked flies in front of outfielders, bunts for hits, always looking for a weakness in the infield to exploit. His fielding was easily good enough to keep umps on their toes, especially with regard to infield fly balls. Supposedly the Reds kept a bowl of colorful amphetamines in the clubhouse, and Rose happily indulged.

The kind of player you loved if he was on your team, and hated with all your heart if he wasn’t.

RIP Pete

They tolerated old Joe Sr and even RFK, when they voted Eisenhower in the 50s and Dewey in 48. Kennedy’s hated Adlai and Truman.
